Of David. A Psalm. 1 The earth is Yahweh’s, as well as its fullness, The world, and those who dwell in it. 2 For He has founded it upon the seas And established it upon the rivers. 3 Who may ascend into the mountain of Yahweh? And who may rise in His holy place? 4 He who has innocent hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to worthlessness And has not sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall lift up a blessing from Yahweh And righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face—pay heed O Jacob. Selah. 7 Lift up your heads, O gates, And be lifted up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! 8 Who is this King of glory? 14 For as many as are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,

Introduction: The Spirit Your Received Romans 8:14-16
12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
Salvation is the work of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Romans 8 shows us the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer
In Romans 8:
The Holy Spirit gives us spiritual life
The Holy Spirit sets us free from the condemnation of the Law and the penalty of sin
The Holy Spirit enables us to walk in righteousness by making us righteous
The Holy Spirit transforms our minds so that we can accept God’s word, understand God’s word, and obey God’s word
The Holy Spirit allows our minds to be at peace with life because we are at peace with God
The Holy Spirit enables us to love the Word of God
The Holy Spirit gives us faith so that we are able to please God
The Holy Spirit transforms us from spiritually dead lovers of sin, enemies of God, and haters of God’s word to those who love God, love his word, and who have eternal life in Christ Jesus
Who the Spirit is
The Spirit of life - all of creation is the work of the Spirit
All physical life is the work of the Spirit
All spiritual life is the work of the Spirit - he is the Spirit of life
This is what we see in Romans 8:9-13.
In Romans 8:9-13 we will see that the Holy Spirit gives us life and dwells in us. and as He continually gives us life and continuously dwells in us there are 5 Wonderful and Dramatic changes that take place in the believer’s life that we’ll look at this morning
In Romans 8:14-16 we are going to see the difference between unbiblical emotional and sentimental cultural Christianity and Salvation affirming, soul strengthening biblical Christianity
The one views you as God’s perpetual little child who remains cuddled, coddles, an
(1) Two Misunderstood Statements
In the Spirit - Romans 8:9
9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.
Led by the Spirit - Romans 8:14
14 For as many as are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
In verses 9-13 God the Holy Spirit gives us:
A new position, possession, power, promise, a new passion - put to death the practices of the flesh
(2) One new perspective

(3) Four incredible theological statements
14 For as many as are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,
1. You are sons of God
2. You have received the Spirit of freedom leading to peace and love - people who are still in bondage, still prisoners
7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and self-discipline.

Romans 8 -
Through the transforming life of the Spirit
The indwelling of the Spirit
The Assurance of the Spirit
The leading of the Spirit
The adoption and sonship of the Spirit
The witness of the Spirit
Now the God who has loved you with an everlasting love and has brought you into the bonds of an everlasting covenant, support you all the days with everlasting arms until the day when He places everlasting joy upon your heads. Amen.
