Have you ever wondered why God chose Abraham to be the father of the chosen people?
The scriptures give us only one, but thorough answer:
And the LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing,
“since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
“For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”
"For I know Him" was God response to His choice
If this was the single reason for God choosing Abraham, it should SPEAK loudly to how important it should be for us, His church!
King David was very generationally minded
O God, You have taught me from my youth;
And to this day I declare Your wondrous works.
Now also when I am old and grayheaded,
O God, do not forsake me,
Until I declare Your strength to this generation,
Your power to everyone who is to come.
GIVE ear, O my people, to my law;
Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
I will open my mouth in a parable;
I will utter dark sayings of old,
Which we have heard and known,
And our fathers have told us.
We will not hide them from their children,
Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD,
And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.
For He established a testimony in Jacob,
And appointed a law in Israel,
Which He commanded our fathers,
That they should make them known to their children;
That the generation to come might know them,
The children who would be born,
That they may arise and declare them to their children,
That they may set their hope in God,
And not forget the works of God,
But keep His commandments;
Passing the Baton does not mean, "GET OUT OF THE WAY"! This is not what a generational transfer looks like.
It's about running together - That scene where the baton is being passed, while in the physical, it only takes a few seconds. But in the spiritual, it could take decades. Both hands are on the baton.
The Dropped the Baton
Passing the baton is intentional and not automatic
Don't settle for peace in your days - 2 Kings 20:16-19 - Hezekiah's mistake of not building bridges to the next generation
Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD:
‘Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and what your fathers have accumulated until this day, shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left,’ says the LORD.
‘And they shall take away some of your sons who will descend from you, whom you will beget; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’ ”
So Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD which you have spoken is good!” For he said, “Will there not be peace and truth at least in my days?”

So Hezekiah rested with his fathers. Then Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hephzibah.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; he raised up altars for Baal, and made a wooden image, as Ahab king of Israel had done; and he worshiped all the host of heaven and served them.
He also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem I will put My name.”
And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
Also he made his son pass through the fire, practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft, and consulted spiritists and mediums. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger.
Moreover Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides his sin by which he made Judah sin, in doing evil in the sight of the LORD.
This prophetic utterance closes the OT with the hope of unity and healing
And he will turn
The hearts of the fathers to the children,
And the hearts of the children to their fathers,
Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”
The hearts of both generations will be turned to each other, in harmony, unity, worshipping together.
God's View of this
‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.
