Serving Through Your Testimony
Evening Bible Study Edition – John 13:12–17
John 13:12–17 NKJV
12 So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

What’s one way someone helped or encouraged you this week? How did it make you feel? ___________________________

What does Jesus teach us about leadership, humility, and love through His actions?

A. Gratitude Fuels Service

Psalm 116:12 NKJV
12 What shall I render to the Lord For all His benefits toward me?

Service begins with thankfulness. When we remember what God has done, we naturally want to bless others.

Question: What are you most thankful for that motivates you to serve others?

B. Service Strengthens Your Testimony

James 2:18 NKJV
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

People are drawn to faith that they can see. Service shows the authenticity of your walk with God.

Question: How can your everyday actions confirm your testimony at work or home?

C. Service Opens Doors for the Gospel

Galatians 5:13 NKJV
13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Every act of kindness can become a bridge for sharing Christ. Service often earns the right to be heard.

✋🏾 Five Practical Ways to Serve Others

1. Serve Through Encouraging Words

Sometimes, the simplest service is a kind word.

2. Serve Through Acts of Compassion

Look for tangible ways to lighten someone’s load.

3. Serve Through Listening and Presence

Some people just need someone to listen.

4. Serve Through Sharing Your Testimony

Your story might be the spark of hope someone needs.

5. Serve Through Prayer and Intercession

Prayer is one of the greatest forms of service.

When you pray for others, you serve them in unseen but powerful work of God

A kind deed, gentle word, or listening ear can open a door for someone to ask, “Why are you so kind?” — giving an opportunity to share Jesus’ love.

Serving others is not about ability, but availability. Every believer — young or old — has something to give that can reveal Christ’s love.

Matthew 5:14–16 NKJV
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

4. Real-Life Application

This week, commit to serving one person intentionally.

1 Peter 4:10 NKJV
10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Hebrews 6:10 NKJV
10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

5. Reflection & Prayer

• How does serving others strengthen your faith? • What is one area in your life where God is calling you to be more intentional about serving?

Closing Prayer: Lord, thank You for serving us first. Help us reflect Your love by serving others with humility, compassion, and joy. Amen.
