Jesus is the Sinless Savior.

Notes
Transcript
Introduction: Friends, so far we’ve learned that God had a plan to deal with sin even before there was sin.
We saw wise men worship Jesus that reminds us we can worship Jesus through song, obedience to His Word, and telling others about Him.
We saw two weeks ago that God’s grace empowered Jesus to obey the Lord, even in obeying His parents.
Last week we saw how Holy Spirit empowered John the Baptist to point out that Jesus was the Promised Savior.
Today, we’re going to see Jesus empowered by the same Holy Spirit use an incredible tool against the enemy, the devil.
Content and Explanation: Luke 4:1–13 “1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry.
Friends, notice, very importantly that God’s Holy Spirit was with Jesus!
God’s Holy Spirit was leading Jesus.
God’s Holy Spirit never left Jesus as Jesus went through these temptations to sin by the devil.
These are going to be very important as we reflect on this passage today.
Also, friends, we’re introduced to someone else in this passage.
The devil.
Friends, the devil is the one who tempted Adam and Eve to sin resulting in the fact that we’re all sinners.
You see, friends, the devil has been at this game of tempting people to sin a long time.
And, friends, he’s really good at it.
However, as we’re going to see from God’s Word today, it’s possible to beat the devil and our desire to sin.
3 And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” 4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’ ” 5 And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, “I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7 “Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours.” 8 Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’ ” 9 And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; 10 for it is written, ‘He will command His angels concerning You to guard You,’ 11 and, ‘On their hands they will bear You up, So that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’ ” 12 And Jesus answered and said to him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ”
Friends, the enemy made 3 different temptation attempts against Jesus.
In fact, during one of these temptations, the enemy even attempted to use Jesus’ tool again Him!
Did you catch it?
The devil tried to use God’s Word to justify Jesus giving into the enemy’s temptation to sin!
This reminds us that the enemy is so sneaky!
He will lie to us, making us think that a temptation to sin looks good.
He will try to confuse us into thinking that what’s right is wrong and what’s wrong is right.
Friends, the devil is not your friend!
He wants to trap you so that you will not please the Lord.
He’s not after what is best for you, like the Lord is!
Notice, friends, the devil figures out that he’s not going to get Jesus to sin!
13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.”
Friends, Jesus won against the devil’s lies and temptations!
How was Jesus able to win?
Because He had the Holy Spirit.
Because He had God’s Word.
Friends, Jesus was empowered by God’s Holy Spirit to use God’s Word to fight the temptations of the enemy.
Friends, to fight against the devil’s efforts to get us to sin, we must be empowered by God’s Holy Spirit to use God’s Word.
Friends, in order to receive the Holy Spirit Jesus has to give Him to you.
Jesus will give you the Holy Spirit when you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your only Savior from your sins.
Friends, Jesus live perfectly to be the perfect sacrifice to forgive sins and lives forever to give the Holy Spirit and a changed heart to everyone who believes on Jesus as their only Savior from their sins.
Friends, Jesus wants you to learn how to use God’s Word to fight the temptations to sin and lies of the enemy.
He’ll teach you through the Holy Spirit.
He’ll teach you through others who have the Holy Spirit ( go to church).
Friends, even though it may be hard and the temptations of the enemy sound really good or his lies seem really believable, the Holy Spirit is greater!
