Review Shed Value Statement Series we will cover for the next 6 weeks.
Have the value statement and the discipleship path passed out.
For today and the next 6 weeks, I want to answer the question, “Who are we at The Shed.”
If you’re new here and still trying to figure us out, these next several weeks will be integral to your understanding of the culture that fuels everything we do here at The Shed.
But before we can dive into our own vision and mission, we must first zoom out and realize that The Shed is not an independent group that is entirely unique.
We are a part of something larger than this group, more expansive than this community, and with more history than any other organization to ever exist.
We are not just A church, we are part of THE church…
The Church isn’t a physical structure built by the hands of man…
The Church is the Body of Christ…
Ephesians 1:22–23 NASB95
22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
We are the body of Christ on the earth..
We are His hands and feet…
The Shed is not just A church, we are a group of believers that make up a part of the Body of Christ…
That Body is all the believers globally.
That Body is not a political organization or a charity… The Body is the habitation of God on the Earth…
Ephesians 2:19–22 NASB95
19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.
We are the Body and we are God’s dwelling in the Spirit…
Which means we are the carriers of the divine mandate…
His mission is our mission.
His assignment for us is to fulfill His purpose…
We have been given divine appointments, a heavenly assignment, a directive from the Head who is Jesus:
A commission was given to the church as a whole:
Matthew 28:19–20 NASB95
19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
This is the mission of the Church as a whole that The Shed is our local expression of, therefore anything we do is going to be how we fulfill this mandate.
We are here as an agency of God for evangelizing the world!
Acts 1:8 NASB95
8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
We are to be a witness to the atoning power of the Gospel!
The mission has been the same from the time Jesus established the church:
Mark 16:15 NASB95
15 …“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
The Church was not Plan B.
The Church was established by God to be a channel of His purpose by building up the body of saints…
Ephesians 4:11–13 NASB95
11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
This is how we fulfill the Great Commission and make disciples…
It’s not just evangelism, but also training in righteousness, equipping the saints for the work of the ministry…
And it is from this big mission from God that we find our expression of it here at The Shed…
Our Mission, the reason we exist is this:

The Shed Exists to Develop Workers for the Harvest.

This is the reason we are here.
We are a place of development and growth…
We are the greenhouse where seeds of discipleship develop into a life of fruitfulness.
Because we exist to develop workers for the harvest, it is our vision to…

Activate and Empower Followers of Jesus to Fulfill Their God-given Mission.

This isn’t just a family, though we are one.
This isn’t just a community, though we are one.
This isn’t just a place of worship, though it is one.
This is primarily a place of growth where we water the seeds that have been planted, keeping connected to the true vine who is our source of life..
In other words, say it with me…

We Grow Disciples in Here that Embody Jesus Out There!

You wanna know about the Shed, that’s what we do!
That’s who we are… We are a group of disciples, growing other disciples, in order to shine brighter in the darkness of the world, reflecting Jesus…
This is the vision!
This is the mission!
This is why we are here.
This is why we gather together every week…
This is why we have a discipleship process in place…
Discipleship for us isn’t an option, it is central to the mission…
Growth at The Shed isn’t a suggestion, it’s the natural process that takes place when we cultivate through discipleship.
What the world needs is not another concert, not another motivational speaker, and not a self help manual…
What the world needs is the very thing that Jesus put us on mission to do:
Make disciples!
Not just make converts…
Not just entertain itchy ears…
BUT MAKE DISCIPLES!
That’s why we put discipleship front and center here…
That’s why we have this discipleship journey, because it’s not just get you here and get you to give…
No, the point of all this is to grow you as a disciple that looks more and more like Jesus all the time!
Quickly walk through the discipleship pathway with the idea that there’s always a next step, always growth that is possible, and always a mission for a believer…
And here’s what I want to share with you on this Discipleship pathway:
If you’re online, we want you to come in person and see us and interact with us, because discipleship happens when we do life together…
Discipleship isn’t a class to attend, a doctrine to learn, or a definition to parse out…
Discipleship is us locking arm in arm and walking through this life of faith together…
Discipleship looks like what Jesus did with His disciples when he walked with them and trained them and lived with them for 3 and a half years before he commissioned them to go and do the same…
His disciples became the Apostles…
The students became the Sent Ones…
And that’s the goal of discipleship, that at some point you take on disciples of your own…
It’s multiplication not addition…
Look at step 2…
Once you visit, we want you to eat with us!
One of the marks of the early church is that they broke bread together…
One thing is sure about The Shed… we like to eat together…
And today you have the opportunity to do that…
Describe Meet’n’Eat today
Continue to walk through the discipleship path through step 10
At step 10 call worship team
And this is the goal:
That you discover through this process the calling God has put on your life and that you get empowered to fulfill that calling surrounded by a family we call the Shed Fam.
Expound on The Mission, launching, discipling, etc.
Over the next 6 weeks, we are going to visit how we fulfill this mission through the six core values you see on the walls around you, and we will talk more through the process of discipleship.
Challenge: Let’s worship, then let’s eat together…
If you don’t have a discipleship partner, we will introduce you to some amazing people who have gone through the process and are willing to start it with you…
