God’s faithful promises cannot be broken by unbelief, guaranteed by birthright, or secured by obedience, it is based solely on His sovereign, eternal plan and choice to demonstrate His loving grace toward us, according to His eternal purpose.
We cannot trust in our heritage, works, or effort for salvation, but humbly submit to and find our hope in God's unchanging, sovereign grace.

The only sacrifice that can save us is that of Jesus Christ's (Rom. 9:1-3)

Only Christ’s compassion can save us (vv. 1-2)
++Only Christ can take our punishment (v. 3)
God’s faithful promise is not guaranteed by the sincere compassion of those who love us. It is only guaranteed by Jesus Christ. He is over all - God, who is blessed forever.

No privilege of this life can save us apart from Jesus Christ (Rom. 9:4-5, Seven blessings that did not save Israel)

Adoption as the children of God (Exod 4:22; cf. Hos 11:1)
++The presence of God’s divine glory (Exod 13:21; 16:7, 10; 24:17; 40:34; 1 Kings 8:11)
++God covenants with them (Gen 15:18; Exod 19:5; 2 Sam. 7:12-16; Jer. 31:31-34)
++The Law (Deut. 5:1-22; Ps 147:19)
++Temple Worship
++They were descendants of the great patriarchs (Matt. 1:1-16; Rom 1:3; 9:5)
++In the flesh, the forefathers of Christ (Micah 5:2-4)
God’s faithful promise is not guaranteed by the blessings in this life. It is only guaranteed by Jesus Christ. He is over all - God, who is blessed forever.

God’s purpose according to His Choice will stand (Rom. 9:6-13)

Those who are born of the promise are the children of God (vv. 6-8)
++God calling us to come to Him is what saves us (vv. 9-11)
++God’s favor is based on His will, not our merit. We do not earn God’s love He just chooses to give it to us (vv. 12-13)
God’s faithful promise is not guaranteed by us earning it or deserving it. It is only guaranteed by Jesus Christ. He is over all - God, who is blessed forever.
Since Jesus Christ is over all - God, who is blessed forever, His Word — His promise will not fail.
We cannot trust in our heritage, works, or effort for salvation, but humbly submit to and find our hope in God's unchanging, sovereign grace.
Since we have not been saved by our good works, we cannot be lost by our bad works. Grace means salvation completely apart from any merit or works on our part. Grace means that God does it all for Jesus’ sake! Our salvation is the gift of God.
Warren W. Wiersbe
