Key verse: v.20
25 verses; 702 words
Grade level: 7.5
Outline:
I. God’s Words from Mount Sinai. Vs.1–15
II. God’s Works from Mount Sinai. Vs.16-25
“Duty follows deliverance. Complete redemption involved more than getting Israel out of Egypt. It also involved getting ‘Egypt’ (i.e., the world) out of them.” (Norman L. Geisler. A Popular Survey of the Old Testament, p. 58.)
Believers must know this one fact: the call of God is demanding. God’s call is...
to a life of obedience
to a life of trust
to a life of self-denial
to a life of faith and assurance
to a life of commitment
Here are what we hear about total commitment:
I. What The Preacher Said. v.7
I. What The Preacher Said. v.7
7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.
II. What The People Said. v.8
II. What The People Said. v.8
8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.
God laments for them because He knew they could not keep His law.
Deuteronomy 5:29 “O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!”
They never kept His law.
Romans 8:3–4 (KJV)
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Galatians 3:21–22 (KJV)
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
III. What The Potentate Said. vs.9-13
III. What The Potentate Said. vs.9-13
How He showed up. v.9
9 And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.
What He showed up for. vs.10-13
Sanctification. v.10
10 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,
1 Thessalonians 4:7 “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.”
Resurrection. v.11
11 And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
Luke 18:33 “And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.”
Hosea 6:2 “After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.”
Separation. vs.12-13
12 And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:
Romans 9:16 “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
This shows God operates under His system of salvation in Christ
13 There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.
Conclusion:
Are you totally committed to Christ?
