A FAITH THAT WORKS WHEN LIFE DOESN’T
You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
I. BECAUSE WE KNOW THE DIFFICULTIES WON’T LAST
Take the old prophets as your mentors. They put up with anything, went through everything, and never once quit, all the time honoring God.
II. BECAUSE WE KNOW GOD WILL USE IT FOR OUR GOOD
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
III. BECAUSE WE KNOW GETTING IRRITATED DOESN’T HELP
Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door.
IV. BECAUSE WE KNOW TRUSTING GOD PLEASES HIM
And so it happened just as the Scriptures say, that Abraham trusted God, and the Lord declared him good in God’s sight, and he was even called “the friend of God.”
V. BECAUSE WE KNOW JESUS IS COMING BACK SOMEDAY
Be patient like that. Stay steady and strong. The Master could arrive at any time.
VI. BECAUSE WE KNOW THIS IS NOT THE END OF THE STORY
What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You’ve heard, of course, of Job’s staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That’s because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.
VII. BECAUSE WE KNOW WE WILL BE REWARDED
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
