The Remnant and the Reckoning: A Call to Consecration

Session 2: The True Remnant

Primary Scripture Reading
Text: Isaiah 10:20–22
Isaiah 10:20–22 KJV 1900
20 And it shall come to pass in that day, That the remnant of Israel, And such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, Shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; But shall stay upon the Lord, The Holy One of Israel, in truth. 21 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, Unto the mighty God. 22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, Yet a remnant of them shall return: The consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
(Additional translation – AMP, v22)
Isaiah 10:22 AMP
22 For though your population, O Israel, be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of it will return [and survive]. The [fully completed] destruction is decreed (decided upon and brought to an issue); it overflows with justice and righteousness [the infliction of just punishment].

Series Reminder Introduction

In Session 1, we learned that separation is inevitable. God allows wheat and tares to grow together, but the time of harvest brings exposure and distinction.
Now, in Session 2, we shift from separation to identification. Who is the remnant? What distinguishes them from the crowd? What marks them as God’s chosen, preserved people in an hour of shaking?
This is not about who goes to church or who calls themselves Christian—it’s about those who stay upon the Lord when everything else falls away.

Session Introduction: The True Remnant

The Bible repeatedly shows that God always preserves a remnant. Noah and his family. Lot and his daughters. Elijah thought he was alone, but God reminded him of the seven thousand who had not bowed to Baal.
The remnant is never the majority. They are not the loudest. They are not always the most visible. But they are the ones God can count on when everything else crumbles.
The remnant is the seed God uses to restore, rebuild, and reignite His covenant in the earth.

Key Word Study

Remnant (Hebrew: שְׁאָר – she’ar, Strong’s H7604): that which remains, preserved after judgment or calamity.
Stay (Hebrew: שָׁעַן – sha’an, Strong’s H8172): to lean upon, to rest on for support.
Remnant (Greek: λείμμα – leimma, Strong’s G3005): a small part remaining, preserved by divine choice.
Main Points

1. The Remnant is Few but Faithful

Scripture: Isaiah 10:22 – “Though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant…”
Explanation: God does not need the majority—He works through the minority. When judgment comes, He preserves those who are faithful.
Historical Note: After Babylon’s captivity, only a remnant returned to rebuild Jerusalem under Nehemiah and Ezra. The work of restoration was not for the crowd but the committed.
Application: Don’t be discouraged by who left. God trims the numbers so His glory, not man’s, will shine.

2. The Remnant Clings to the Lord

Scripture: Isaiah 10:20 – “The remnant… shall stay upon the LORD.”
Explanation: Unlike the masses who rely on human strength, systems, or leaders, the remnant leans solely on the Lord.
Key Word: Stay (sha’an) means to rest your full weight on something. The remnant rests on God’s promises, not the world’s provision.
Application: In crisis, who or what do you lean on? The remnant survives because their trust is unshakable.

3. The Remnant Bears the Testimony of Jesus

Scripture: Revelation 12:17 – “The dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant… which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
Explanation: The remnant is marked by obedience and testimony. They are hated by hell because they reflect heaven.
Prophetic Insight: The rise of persecution is not proof that the church is failing—it is proof that the remnant is rising. Satan does not war against lukewarm believers—only the remnant.
Application: Does your life provoke the enemy? The remnant is targeted because they are dangerous to the kingdom of darkness.

Application

The true remnant is not about numbers, titles, or visibility. It is about faithfulness, reliance, and obedience.
Examine: Am I leaning fully on the Lord, or on something else?
Decide: Will I be content to be part of the crowd, or do I want to be counted among the remnant?
Encourage: If you feel small or overlooked, remember—God’s greatest moves often start with the remnant.
🙏 “Lord, if the world rejects me, let me be found faithful in Your remnant.”

Call to Action

The shaking you see is not the end—it is the refining. God is marking His remnant. He is sealing a people who will not bow to Baal, will not compromise with Babylon, and will not be silenced by the enemy.
This is a call to radical alignment. Don’t just survive the separation—stand as the remnant.
🌾 The remnant is not what is left over—it is what God has chosen to carry over.
