Dinosaur Mask Prop
(Walk up wearing the dinosaur mask, pause for laughter or surprise.)
Now, some of y’all are already wondering what in the Jurassic Park is going on right now. Don’t worry I haven’t lost it. This dinosaur mask is a reminder of how we sometimes live our lives — pretending, performing, and hiding behind something that isn’t real.”

“See, masks are fun for a while. They get attention. They help us play a part. But wear one long enough, and it gets hot, hard to breathe, and you forget what your real face feels like. And that’s what happens when we try to live behind spiritual masks — the ‘I’m fine’ mask, the ‘I’ve got it all together’ mask, the ‘church smile’ mask. On the outside, we look alive, but on the inside, we’re tired, afraid, and maybe even a little haunted by what we’re hiding.”

“Jesus said to the Pharisees, ‘You look beautiful on the outside, but inside you’re full of dead bones.’ That’s a strong word, but it’s also a loving invitation — to drop the mask and let God see the real us.”

“The truth is, we all wear something like this. But freedom doesn’t come from pretending; it comes from honesty. When we drop the mask, we finally breathe again — and that’s where healing begins.”

The Mask Looks Good, but It’s Heavy
The Mask Looks Good, but It’s Heavy
Jesus calls out the Pharisees for being 'whitewashed tombs.' The outside was spotless; the inside was lifeless.
We work so hard polishing the outside, our image, our reputation, our church smile, that we end up exhausted trying to keep it all together.
The performance becomes a prison.
Illustration: Halloween masks look fun at first, but wear one too long and it gets hot and suffocating. The same thing happens when we pretend.
The Real Haunting Is on the Inside
The Real Haunting Is on the Inside
The Pharisees weren’t haunted by ghosts; they were haunted by guilt, pride, and fear of exposure.
What’s haunting you beneath your mask? Anger? Shame? Insecurity?
You can’t heal what you won’t reveal.
Wesleyan tie-in: Sanctifying grace works in the deep, hidden places, not just the public ones.
God Can’t Heal Who You Pretend to Be
God Can’t Heal Who You Pretend to Be
Jesus isn’t interested in your filtered version; He wants you.
Confession and authenticity are invitations for God’s Spirit to breathe new life inside the tomb.
When you drop the mask, you make room for mercy.
Quote/Line: 'God doesn’t bless who you’re pretending to be; He blesses who you truly are.'
Freedom Comes When We Stop Hiding
Freedom Comes When We Stop Hiding
Real holiness isn’t looking perfect; it’s being honest.
The people who seem the most 'put together' are often the ones who need grace the most.
When you finally get honest with God, yourself, and others, you experience what Psalm 32 promised: forgiveness, peace, and joy.
Closing image: 'You can’t breathe behind a mask. But when you drop it, grace rushes in like fresh air.’ Theme: When we hide behind masks of perfection, we live haunted by the fear of being found out. But when we drop the mask before God, we discover that grace was waiting for the real us all along.
