Usually, gifts are for us
But spiritual gifts aren’t just for us; they are to help us equip others
Finishing up our Gifted series
Concluding with Ephesians 4:11; 1 Corinthians 12:28

Explanation:
Q. What does it mean to be an apostle?
Eye witness of Jesus
Called by Him
Able to write Scripture
The gift: not to be confused with the office of being an apostle
A distinct category here in Ephesians

Desire to spread the Gospel wide
And they are good at it
Church planters/missionaries
Have a heart for people of various locations and cultures

Q. What is the gift of shepherding?
Shepherd = Pastor, Overseer
Related to leadership and teaching
Protecting/taking care of the sheep
The spiritual well-being of the body
Pastors are servants
A mixture of abilities that allows them to serve the needs of an entire community.
Goal: Reveal the glory of God in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit to a people who need God’s grace for life.
Primary method: teaching
The gift of pastor-teacher
The ability to teach is a requirement of being an overseer
Teaching = feeding the sheep
Leading others in the Great Commission
Keeps the Gospel at the center
Does not seek fame; placed in authority by HS
Humility and service

What does it mean to have the gift of teaching?
How is it different than having the gift of shepherding?
Carries heavy responsibility
James 3:1 ESV
1 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.
Being a steward of every word that comes out of your mouth
Steward of the Word to God’s people
Communicating what the Bible says, what it means, and how to apply it
Loving to study the Bible for long periods of time
Scripture as food for hearts
Wanting to know what God has revealed and what he requires
Take great joy in seeing others learn and apply
Seeing the Gospel woven throughout all of Scripture
Helping the church be a place of truth
Hate the Scriptures being taken out of context
Following the footsteps of Jesus
Effect: Upholding of God’s Word and the growth and maturity of His bride

1 Corinthians 12:28 ESV
28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.
Q. What do you think it means to have the gift of administration?
Greek: Shipmaster or captain
Literal meaning: “to steer” or “to rule or govern”
Someone who guides and directs a group of people toward a goal or destination
Organizing, directing, and implementing plans
Related to leadership, but is more goal or task oriented (details and organization)

Help ministries get organized
Do the tasks that other people aren’t willing to do

We each have a part to contribute to the harmony of the whole

What can you do to equip someone else for the work of ministry
God has given us the best gifts in the world.
