What is the Missionary Task, and When will it be done?

What - go into all the world

Matthew 28:18–20 NIV
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

When will it be done?

Matthew 24:14 NIV
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Revelation 7:9 NIV
9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.

Conclusion

So, we know what the task is, when we will be finished with the task, and what the fruit of the task will be.
The exciting thing to recognize is that part of what we do as a church directly influences the return of Christ. As we are faithful and obedient to the Mission of the Church and the missionary task, and as we proclaim the Good News (Gospel) to every Nation, we hasten the return of Jesus.

Where are the People

If our task is to reach UPGs, then most of our missionaries should be going to reach them, right?

How many missionaries are there?

The thing that Jesus told us to pray for was for workers in the harvest, right? So how many missionaries do you think are in the world (Protestant, Catholic, Evangelical, everyone)?
A: About 400,000

What percentage go to the unreached?

A: 3%
Most of our workers are going to work with churches that already have a church that can reach its own people. Now, there is a good reason to have some missionaries working in the established church. But should it be 97% of everyone who goes out?

Discussion

Why do you think most workers go to the reached areas of the world?

If you say, “It is because they are not called” I would challenge that.
Only 0.0005% of all Christians are working among the unreached. So then is it God’s fault that he hasn’t “called” more? Has he “called” 99.9995% of all believers to work among those people who already have access to the Gospel?
