True Worship Series

We started our series discussion of worship from the perspective of Job. Job 1:19–22 “Suddenly a powerful wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people so that they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you!” Then Job stood up, tore his robe, and shaved his head. He fell to the ground and worshiped, saying: Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will leave this life. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Throughout all this Job did not sin or blame God for anything.” From that story, we know that regardless of what we face, we cannot accept good from God, but not also accept the adversity. God is God of my good days and he is the same God of my bad days.
Last week, we took a look at Romans 12:1–3 “Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. For by the grace given to me, I tell everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he should think. Instead, think sensibly, as God has distributed a measure of faith to each one.” We must push past comfortable Christianity toward true transformation. Don't settle for surface-level faith—discover how to present your whole life as worship that pleases God. Join us to explore what it means to be truly transformed by the Gospel.
Today, we wrap up our series in Psalms 147: 5-11 and tough on Psalms 116. The scripture of Psalms 147 reads as follows.
Psalm 147:5–11 “Our Lord is great, vast in power; his understanding is infinite. The Lord helps the oppressed but brings the wicked to the ground. Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; play the lyre to our God, who covers the sky with clouds, prepares rain for the earth, and causes grass to grow on the hills. He provides the animals with their food, and the young ravens what they cry for. He is not impressed by the strength of a horse; he does not value the power of a warrior. The Lord values those who fear him, those who put their hope in his faithful love.”
It is important that we end this series with an understanding of the fullness of the attributes of God. The first thing we see when we look at this text is that Our Lord is great. He is immediately measured in who He is. He is Omnipotent. He is Omniscient. He is also Omnipresent. It reads, His power is vast. His understanding is infinite. This informs us that our God is not like the gods we find mentioned in the text. All through the books of the old testament; beginning with Genesis, we see references of people straying to worship other gods, some symbols, stars, calfs, etc. But to state that our God has vast power and He is great with infinite understanding, reveals the truth or veracity about who our God is.
In all that He does, He has time to not only meet the need of everyone in this room, but He also grows the grass on the hill. Ensure the rain comes to wash away the germs, drought and disease from our fruits and vegetables, and land. He gives controls everything in the human and the spiritual realm. Or as the bible says, the cosmos. That is the power of our God and why we worship Him.
Because of this, He deserves reverence, a profound love, respect, and awe. We see here what he provides us with. Same as we discussed last week, food, shelter, family, love. Even it’s it’s not perfect, right. The text also says He is impressed by the strength of a horse; he does not value the power of a warrior. The Lord values those who fear him, those who put their hope in his faithful love.” There is nothing that we can go to woo God to support us. He is not seeking an ally in us. The relationship He seeks is Him to love and us to Fear and Love. You cannot impress the one, who made you impressive. You can worship Him, though. For making you impressive. You can thank him for providing you with all He does. You can serve Him for all He is capable of doing. Many of us live lives where our value is weighed in how good of an athlete I am, how well can I sing, how rich am I, who are my friends, there are so many factors that are considered; our God.
Our Glorious God, cares about 3 things. Do we Love Him? Do we Believe in the Trinity? Do we fear Him?
Psalm 116:5–14 “The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is compassionate. The Lord guards the inexperienced; I was helpless, and he saved me. Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you. For you, Lord, rescued me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living. I believed, even when I said, “I am severely oppressed.” In my alarm I said, “Everyone is a liar.” How can I repay the Lord for all the good he has done for me? I will take the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.”
Do we really understand the goodness of God? What it means it means to tell your soul to rest. Again, we see the Psalmist mentions the compassion that God offers. God being compassionate is such an immeasurable blessing. When you know that you love Him and He loves you. The Lord is our rescue and our refuge. God is not of the world, He is incapable of wrong, He is only righteous. He is only good. He is only loving. He is compassionate enough to, able to, willing to and does save.
The manner of oppression or societal discourse, and/or mental anguish although we can feel is no obstacle to God and the Holy Spirit which lives in you to comfort you through your suffering when you build that relationship. What is the spirit? Jesus teaches us that after His death, we will receive the Spirit with our salvation.
John 14:26–27 Jesus says, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you. “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.” When you have that level of trust in God, that your mind could be at ease knowing God is control. He loves you.
Your peace is in the Spirit. This is why it is important to work your spiritual formation plans, this is why it is vital that we spend time in our word, because peace lies in the Spirit. We don’t have to worry about anything. We don’t have to fear why? Because God, our Father. God sent His son into this world to die for you. To make you right in the eyes of God. It is because of Him that you are able to do all you are capable of. Receive all the grace and mercy you receive. We can dwell in his salvation and be saved from our harm. The liars he referring to hear is anyone else who believe they can do it. Only by Him, Only by His name are we saved.
There is only one thing we can do to thank God for all he does; look at what the Psalmist tells us…He says, “I will take the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord”.
The psalmist says I will fulfill my vows in the presence of God’s people. Which means I will live a right and holy life. My life will be the witness in my worship of the Lord. That people will see the glory of God, the love of His Son Jesus and His Spirit is dwelling in me. That is your worship. Is that you today?
