If you have your bibles please turn with me to 2 Timothy chapter 4 and we are going to look at verses 6-8. These verses may be familiar to you but we are going to dig in here and look at these in a little more detail and see what the apostle Paul is telling this young preacher here in these three verses. This is a call for Timothy to finish well and finish strong as he is doing and has sought to do throughout his earthly ministry,
Now Paul is writing this letter from prison, this letter is one of three letters Paul wrote called the Pastoral letters that would be 1st and 2nd Timothy and Titus. Both of these men Paul left in certain places to lead the churches there. Timothy in Ephesus and Titus at one point was on the island of Crete. Even though he is writing this from prison this is not a prison epistle, those would be Ephesians, Colossians and Philippians and ????????
Who is Timothy? We were introduced to him a while back when he came on the scene in Acts chapter 16. If you recall he is a young man who lived in Lystra. We know from this chapter that his mother was a Jew and his father a Greek which made his travels with Paul unique as they traveled and as Paul would do would go find the synogoge first and proclaim to them that Jesus is the Christ that they have read about in the scriptures.
