Philippians 2:5 “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,”
I. The Call to Unity and Humility (vv. 1–4)
I. The Call to Unity and Humility (vv. 1–4)
Main Point: Real strength is shown in humility, not pride.
Paul calls men to be of one mind and one heart.
Brotherhood isn’t about who’s in charge—it’s about serving each other.
The greatest battles men fight are often in the heart—pride, ego, and comparison.
Illustration:
Iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17) — but sparks only fly when both pieces are submitted to the process.
Key Phrase: “It’s not about who’s first, it’s about who’s faithful.”
Application:
Ask: “Am I building up my brothers, or competing with them?”
II. The Example of Christ’s Humility (vv. 5–11)
II. The Example of Christ’s Humility (vv. 5–11)
Main Point: Jesus didn’t use His power for self—He used it to serve.
He emptied Himself, took the form of a servant, and obeyed to the point of death.
This is what manhood looks like in the Kingdom—service, sacrifice, and submission.
Because Jesus went low, God lifted Him high.
Illustration:
A strong man kneels before God before he ever stands before men.
Key Phrase: “God honors the man who humbles himself.”
Application:
Ask: “Where is God asking me to humble myself so He can lift me higher?”
III. The Responsibility of a Godly Man (vv. 12–13)
III. The Responsibility of a Godly Man (vv. 12–13)
Main Point: Work out what God has worked in.
Salvation is personal, but it’s not private—live it out daily.
God gives both the desire and the power to do His will.
Spiritual maturity is not automatic—it’s intentional.
Illustration:
Like going to the gym, you can’t build spiritual muscle if you never show up.
Key Phrase: “God works in you, but He won’t work without you.”
Application:
Ask: “Am I cooperating with what God is trying to build in me?”
IV. The Character of a Godly Man (vv. 14–16)
IV. The Character of a Godly Man (vv. 14–16)
Main Point: Shine instead of complain.
Complaining dims your witness; gratitude strengthens it.
Real men bring light, not drama.
The world doesn’t need louder men—it needs brighter ones.
Illustration:
A flashlight only proves its power in the dark.
Key Phrase: “Don’t curse the darkness—shine in it.”
Application:
Ask: “What does my attitude reveal about my faith?”
V. The Reward of Faithful Men (vv. 19–30)
V. The Reward of Faithful Men (vv. 19–30)
Main Point: Paul honors Timothy and Epaphroditus—men who were faithful, not famous.
Faithfulness is what heaven celebrates.
Be the man God can trust with the assignment.
Illustration:
Men don’t need titles to make impact—just testimony and consistency.
Key Phrase: “Be a Timothy in a world of talkers.”
Application:
Ask: “Would my faithfulness be noticed if my name wasn’t attached to it?”
Closing Challenge
Closing Challenge
“Men of God, your strength is not measured by what you control—but by what you surrender. Let this mind be in you, the same that was in Christ Jesus.”
Group Reflection:
What one area of your life needs humility right now?
How can you serve someone this week the way Christ served you?
