Last week we finished chapter 1 where Peter calls believers to join Christ in His Holyness which literally means to be set apart. SO to join Jesus in His apartness from this world.
Well start in chapter 2 tonight
Verse 1, SO put away all malice and deceit and hypocrisy and envy and slander. So malice is the desire to do evil, Deceit is the action of deceiving someone or tricking someone , hypocrisy is the act of claiming to have moral standards and your behavior doesnt match up to those standards , Envy is being discontented from someone else’s possessions , slander is spreading of rumors or talking false against someone
Verse 2 ,So Peter says get rid of this behavior and like new born babies are born craving their mothers milk Christians should develop a longing for Gods word
Verse 3, Christians will continue to long for the word if they have tasted and seen that the Lord is good. Just like a new born baby will cry for its mother becuase that is where they get their food and nourishment from Christians should have a deep desire for the word of God in their life.
Verse 4, Peters picture is that God is building a spiritual temple using living stones which are Christians who have came to the ultimate living stone Christ Jesus.
Christ is the living Cornerstone of Gods temple, which is a foundation stone of great importance , Jesus is the foundation of the Church and we Gods people are the church because Christ lives in us.
Verse 5, Before Christ died on the cross we use to have to go to a high priest which was a man who followed many rules and regulations and he would go to God in prayer on our behalf. Christ became the great high Priest opening the gate for us to have direct relationship with God the Father.
Peter clearly tells us what to avoid as a follower of Christ and then he tells what we are to eat and drink and desire.
