The Word and Spirit of Thanks

The spirit of gratitude is not just a sentiment but a lifestyle choice that honors God and reflects His own character. (Desiring God.org)
The Word of God and the ability to give thanks are integral to the Christian faith, reflecting the heart's response to God's blessings and the joy of
sharing them with others.
Speaking God's word holds immense power
capable of creating,
transforming, and
influencing lives, as illustrated throughout Scripture.
The Bible emphasizes the profound impact of the spoken words, beginning with the creation.
In this narrative — God speaks the Universe into existence.
Gen 1.3
Genesis 1:3 NKJV
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
That is the power of God’s Word —
LET’S LOOK DEEPER...
Proverbs 18:21 NKJV
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
Hebrews 4:12 NLT
12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
Colossians 3:16 NLT
16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
Isaiah 55:11 NLT
11 It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
Matthew 4:4 NKJV
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
Now, it is easy to see that we need the Word in our mouth everyday cause we need it’s power for us, in us, and through us to transform us and this world we live in.
The Bible encourages believers to give thanks in all things, recognizing that all blessings come from God.
So, let’s encouraging ourselves with God’s Word, before we ask Him of anything is crucial everyday!
He is worthy of praise
Ephesians 5:20 NLT
20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
WORSHIP—WORSHIP
Generosity and Obedience
The Bible teaches that Christian giving is an act of worship. Paul teaches the Corinthians that taking up the collection is an act of worship which should be a part of their regular Lord’s Day worship: “On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save” (1 Cor. 16:2).
1 Corinthians 16:2 KJV 1900
2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
This phrase suggests intentionality and planning in giving.
It implies that believers should be thoughtful and deliberate in their financial contributions, ensuring that they are prepared to give when the need arises.
This approach contrasts with impulsive or sporadic giving and aligns with the biblical principle of being a cheerful giver (Bible Hub)
Do you realize that giving is a part of worship?
When we put our money in the plate, we are worshiping Almighty God in accordance with His Word.
The question I am asking myself this morning is...
Is my worship in this area abundant or do I need to ask Father to help me grow intentionally in this area?

LESSON CONT.
Besides the Word, there is also another integral part of our Christian faith and walk.
The Word (We have talked about this) and there is The Spirit.
Walking in the Spirit refers to living a life guided by the Holy Spirit, which involves several key aspects:
It means putting off the flesh and embracing a new, Spirit-filled way of life.
It describes how Christians should conduct themselves, enabling them to resist temptations and live victoriously.
It signifies a departure from an old life of bondage, focusing instead on a new life in Jesus Christ.
It involves setting one's mind on spiritual matters and bearing the fruit of the Spirit.
Ultimately, it is about being filled with the Spirit and following His guidance in daily life.
This concept emphasizes the transformative power of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life.
If we are to walk in THE SPIRIT, we must get to know the ROLE OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD....

Understanding the Holy Spirit’s Role

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity—God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.
While Jesus ascended to heaven after His resurrection, He promised to send the Holy Spirit to be with His followers.
In John 14:16-17, Jesus said,
John 14:16–17 NLT
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
The Holy Spirit is God’s presence with us, guiding and empowering us to live according to His will.
The Holy Spirit plays several vital roles in the life of a believer.
He is our comforter,
counselor,
teacher, and
guide.
He convicts us of sin,
points us to truth, and
equips us to live out God’s commands.
In Romans 8:14, we are reminded,
Romans 8:14 NLT
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
Walking in the Spirit means yielding to His leadership in every aspect of our lives.
Let’s look at a few SCRIPTURES CONCERNING this...
Walking in the Spirit Involves a Daily Commitment to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit, even when it goes against our natural inclinations.
Galatians 5:16–18 NLT
16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
Walking in the Spirit is not a passive endeavor; it requires intentionality and a willingness to deny our fleshly desires in favor of God’s will.
When we walk in the Spirit, we align ourselves with God’s purposes and experience the freedom that comes from living according to His truth. We no longer have to rely on our own strength, but we can trust in the power of the Holy Spirit to lead us and empower us to live as God has called us to.

 Evidence of a Spirit-Led Life

One of the most powerful indicators that we are walking in the Spirit is the fruit that it produces in our lives. The fruit of the Spirit is the evidence of God’s work within us. In Galatians 5:22-23
Galatians 5:22–23 NLT
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Each of these qualities reflects the nature of God and the character of Christ.
As we walk in the Spirit, these qualities become increasingly evident in our lives.
The Holy Spirit transforms us from the inside out, helping us to reflect God’s love and holiness in our interactions with others.
The more we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us, the more we begin to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit.

The Power of the Holy Spirit to Overcome Sin

One of the greatest benefits of walking in the Spirit is the power it gives us to overcome sin. As human beings, we are prone to sin, but the Holy Spirit empowers us to resist temptation and live according to God’s will.
In Romans 8:13
Romans 8:13 NLT
13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.
The Holy Spirit helps us to put aside sinful desires and live in a way that pleases God.
When we face temptations, the Holy Spirit gives us the strength and wisdom to choose God’s way over our own desires.
It is through the Spirit’s power that we are able to live victorious lives over sin and it’s bondage.
Another essential aspect of Walking in the Spirit in Prayer.
The Holy Spirit helps us in our prayer lives, interceding for us when we don’t know what to pray. Romans 8:26-27
Romans 8:26–27 NLT
26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
When we pray in the Spirit, we open ourselves to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, allowing Him to direct our prayers and align them with God’s will.
Praying in the Spirit also helps us grow in intimacy with God. As we rely on the Holy Spirit’s help, we deepen our connection with God and strengthen our faith. The more we pray and seek God’s presence, the more we will hear His voice and experience His guidance in our lives.

Walking in the Spirit in Community

While walking in the Spirit is a personal journey, it is also important to walk in the Spirit within the context of Christian community.
The Holy Spirit works within the body of Christ to build up and encourage believers. In 1 Corinthians 12:7
1 Corinthians 12:7 NLT
7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.
The gifts of the Spirit are not just for our benefit but are meant to be used to serve others and advance God’s kingdom.
As we walk in the Spirit, we are called to use the gifts and abilities the Holy Spirit has given us to bless those around us. Whether it’s through acts of kindness, teaching, or serving, we are all called to be instruments of the Holy Spirit’s work in the world. Walking in the Spirit within community strengthens the church and allows us to fulfill the mission God has given us.

A Life Transformed by the Word of God and The Holy Spirit Impacts Our Degree of Giving Thanks

Walking by the Word of God and Walking in the Spirit of God is the key to living a life that reflects God’s will and purpose.
It is a journey of surrender, trust, and obedience, where we allow the Word and the Holy Spirit to guide, empower, and transform us.
As we apply God’s Word in our walk in the Spirit, we experience the
fruit of His presence by the incorruptible Word of God,
the power to overcome sin, and
a deepened relationship with God.
We also become a part of the larger body of Christ, using our gifts to build up and encourage one another.
May we continually throughout this season of thanks— to say, I AM THANKFUL!
Let us seek to Speak God’s Word and choose to Walk by His Spirit.
Our journey is all about, relying on God’s power and grace to live out His calling in our lives.
When we do this, we will experience the fullness of the life He has prepared for us.
