SERMON TITLE: “Who Does He Think He Is?”
SERMON TITLE: “Who Does He Think He Is?”
TEXT: Mark 6:1–5
THEME: Rejected, but Still Relevant.
INTRODUCTION — “He Came Back Changed”
INTRODUCTION — “He Came Back Changed”
Jesus left Nazareth as a carpenter, but He returned as a rabbi.
He walked in with a Word and a work — and His hometown couldn’t handle either.
They looked at Him and said, “Where did this man get these things?”
They didn’t question His skill — they questioned His source.
And sometimes it’s not your talent people have an issue with…
It’s your transformation.
“Isn’t this the carpenter?”
“Ain’t this Mary’s boy?”
“Ain’t that Joseph’s stepson?”
People will remember your past position to keep from accepting your present power.
POINT I — FAMILIARITY IS THE ENEMY OF FAITH
POINT I — FAMILIARITY IS THE ENEMY OF FAITH
They couldn’t receive the miraculous because they were stuck in the mundane.
They were too familiar with Him to have faith in Him.
Familiarity breeds comfort.
Comfort breeds complacency.
Complacency kills conviction.
They couldn’t see the Christ because they were stuck on the carpenter.
Subpoint:
Subpoint:
They remembered His workshop, not His Word.
They remembered His hammer, not His healing.
They remembered His family, not His Father.
You can’t receive from someone you refuse to see differently.
POINT II — THE BUILDER’S BLUEPRINT
POINT II — THE BUILDER’S BLUEPRINT
Jesus was a carpenter — a builder — and that’s not by accident.
God is a builder.
He builds lives, builds faith, builds futures.
Lessons from the Workshop:
Lessons from the Workshop:
There’s potential in every log.
God sees purpose in rough places.
It takes time and pressure to make something usable.
You can’t be polished without being processed.
The hardest wood makes the finest work.
Your struggle is producing strength.
Tell somebody: “God’s still building me!”
POINT III — THE OFFENSE OF OBEDIENCE
POINT III — THE OFFENSE OF OBEDIENCE
Mark says, “They were offended at Him.”
How do you get offended by a blessing?
How do you reject the very answer you prayed for?
Because offense is often rooted in insecurity.
They couldn’t handle what He carried — because it reminded them of what they didn’t.
Sometimes your growth becomes someone else’s grief.
You remind them of who they chose not to become.
POINT IV — THE PROPHET WITHOUT HONOR
POINT IV — THE PROPHET WITHOUT HONOR
“A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country.”
Jesus wasn’t dishonored by sinners — He was dishonored by the familiar.
He was rejected not by the world, but by His own world.
Sometimes you have to learn how to outgrow where you were raised.
Subpoint:
Subpoint:
You can’t get stuck proving yourself to people who refuse to see you differently.
Don’t spend your anointing arguing with your audience.
Rejection isn’t punishment — it’s positioning.
Nazareth was small… but His calling was not.
POINT V — THE LIMITATION OF UNBELIEF
POINT V — THE LIMITATION OF UNBELIEF
“He could do no mighty work there.”
This doesn’t mean Jesus lost His power — it means they lost their posture.
He could, but He wouldn’t.
God doesn’t move in the atmosphere of arrogance — only in the atmosphere of faith.
Tony Evans says:
“Christ didn’t lack power; the absence of faith caused God to withhold supernatural work.”
You can’t block God’s ability — but you can block your access.
POINT VI — HE MARVELED AT THEIR UNBELIEF
POINT VI — HE MARVELED AT THEIR UNBELIEF
Jesus never marveled at money, architecture, or armies —
But He marveled at faith… and at the lack of it.
He marveled at faith in the centurion.
He marveled at unbelief in Nazareth.
It amazes Heaven when you stop believing what you’ve already seen God do.
POINT VII — REJECTION DIDN’T STOP THE MISSION
POINT VII — REJECTION DIDN’T STOP THE MISSION
“He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.”
Jesus didn’t shut down; He shifted.
He didn’t get bitter; He got busy.
He left Nazareth — but He didn’t leave His assignment.
Sometimes rejection is the push that sends you into the next level of revelation.
WHOOPING CLOSE — “HE’S STILL BUILDING ME!”
WHOOPING CLOSE — “HE’S STILL BUILDING ME!”
They called Him carpenter like it was an insult —
But it was a prophecy!
Because builders don’t quit…
Builders don’t back down…
Builders don’t fold when they’re forgotten!
He was the Carpenter then — and He’s still building now!
Can I preach it like I feel it? 🙌🏽
He’s building your faith out of your failure…
He’s building your peace out of your pain…
He’s building your destiny out of your disappointment!
They said, “Isn’t this Mary’s boy?”
But He said, “I must be about My Father’s business!”
Tell somebody — He’s still building me!
He’s still shaping me!
He’s still sanding off the rough edges!
He’s still measuring me by grace and not by guilt!
You might have left me in Nazareth…
But I’m on my way to Capernaum!
You might not clap for me…
But Heaven’s already confirmed me!
When they won’t honor you, God will endorse you!
When they can’t handle your growth, God will elevate your ground!
When they can’t see who you are, God will show them who He is through you!
I feel like preaching — He’s the Builder and the Blessing!
He’s the Carpenter and the Christ!
He’s the Foundation and the Finisher!
He’s the Rock and the Redeemer!
He’s the Son they rejected… but the Stone the builders refused has become the Chief Cornerstone!
Somebody shout — He’s still building me!
Because I may have been rejected…
But I’m still relevant!
Still called!
Still chosen!
Still becoming everything He designed me to be!
🎤 “And if they ask you again — ‘Where did you get these things?’ — tell ‘em…”
“I got it from the Builder!”
“I got it from the Carpenter!”
“I got it from Jesus!”
🙌🏽 “He’s still building me!”
