Marriage is a Gift from God

1. Marriage is a gift from God intended for this temporary life alone.

Matthew 22:30 ESV

30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

Marriage is an institution created by God within the elements of this created order.

Genesis 2:23–25 ESV

23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

In marriage, the man and woman complete one another.

2. Marriage as God designed it reflects the relationship Jesus has with his church.

Let’s discuss Eph 5.22-33.

3. The church cannot be strong without strengthening marriages in the body.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 ESV

14 And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.

You, minister/preacher, are important! From pulpit to person, you are vastly important!

4. Marriage and family problems outnumber all other counseling problems combined.

This class will not be about divorce or remarriage. It will also not be about the children in the home. This course will be about marriage counseling.

We are dealing with preventing divorce and maintaining authorized marital relationships.
