Bible Passage: John 3:14–17, Romans 8:1
Bible Passage: John 3:14–17, Romans 8:1
Intro: Today i want to talk about one of the most well known verses in the Bible, John 3:16. But i want to do more than talk about our salvation, I want to briefly dive into what freedom this salvation actually brings! We will look at an old testament passage that parells the verses surrounding John 3:16, and see how we can apply this truth to our lives.
Big Idea: Through Christ's sacrifice, we are liberated from the chains of condemnation and invited into a life of hope and purpose.
1. Lifted for salvation
1. Lifted for salvation
John 3:14-15 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
Numbers 21:6- Then the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. 7 And the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you. Pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. 8 And the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.
Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, Jesus had to be lifted up on the cross for our salvation. Faith in Jesus is the means to escape condemnation. Believing in Jesus brings healing and cleansing from past wounds and a fresh start, liberated from the penalty of sin.
2. True Love
2. True Love
John 3:16- 17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
God's love is the motivation for sending His Son, not to condemn the world, but to save it.
The Condemnation was the serpents, AKA Our Sin!
Encourage a response of gratitude and an assurance in God's continuous love, while emphasizing that freedom in Christ means living without fear of judgment but instead with a purpose that aligns with God's heart.
3. Now No Condemnation
3. Now No Condemnation
Romans 8:1-3 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do.
With Christ, there is now no condemnation,
the completed work of Christ is effective and powerful.
Reinforce the security and assurance this brings,
We are free from shame and the weight of guilt.
in Christ, we are accepted and called to live a life set apart from condemnation's shadow, liberated for God's glory.
