Matthew 5:1–12

. 5:3–12 The Beatitudes (from Latin for “blessed, happy”) all begin with “Blessed are …” These short statements summarize the Sermon on the Mount. 5:3 Blessed is a state of well-being in relationship to God. The poor in spirit are those who recognize they need God’s help. 5:4 those who mourn. Recognizing one’s sin should lead to mourning and longing for God’s forgiveness and healing (see 2 Cor. 7:10). 5:5 The meek do not assert themselves over others in order to further their own agendas in their own strength. Compare Ps. 37:11. 5:6 Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness long for God’s righteous character to be evident in people’s lives. 5:8 In contrast to Jewish traditions that emphasized ritual purity, Jesus taught that purity of heart was most important (see note on v. 28). 5:9 peacemakers. Those who promote God’s message of peace through Jesus the Messiah will receive the ultimate reward of being called sons of God (see note on Gal. 3:26).

यीशु ने जब यह बड़ी भीड़ देखी, तो वह एक पहाड़ पर चला गया। वहाँ वह बैठ गया और उसके अनुयायी उसके पास आ गये। तब यीशु ने उन्हें उपदेश देते हुए कहा:

“धन्य हैं वे जो हृदय से दीन हैं,

स्वर्ग का राज्य उनके लिए है।

एक धन्य मनुष्य कौन होता है ?

हृदय से दीन

यह व्यक्ति समझता है की उसमे कोई भी कुशलता नहीं है

गरीब लोग अपनी ज़रूरतें खुद पूरी नहीं कर पाते थे और अक्सर ईश्वर पर निर्भरता महसूस करते थे, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप उनमें अद्भुत विनम्रता और विश्वास पैदा होता था। "गरीबों" को अक्सर ऐसे लोगों के रूप में वर्णित किया जाता है जो ईश्वर पर विनम्र निर्भरता रखते हैं, उनके उद्धार का अनुभव करते हैं और उनके अनुग्रह का आनंद लेते हैं।

Not just as subjects - but as rulers . Jesus says instead that the kingdom belongs to them. This seems to imply that the poor in spirit are not merely subjects of this kingdom but participate in the Messiah’s rule as his representatives. This statement recalls texts such as Dan 7:22 (“And the holy ones took possession of the kingdom”) and Dan 7:27 (“The kingdom, dominion, and greatness of the kingdoms under all of heaven will be given to the people, the holy ones of the Most High”) and anticipates the promise of Matt 19:28–30.

Beatitudes - Last one is a result of keeping the Beatitudes. So there are 7 - A symbol of completion

What started with instructions for what God wanted them to be, now culminates into what God expected them to be.

Poor in spirit, butj rich in Christ

what it means is that the on,y thing that makes your worth something is Christ living in you. Everything else that belongs to you is worthless. So in your spirit, you are nothing, but in God, you are everything.

Whatever you are doing without Jesus is sin

This has been noticed by several critics, who by the sevenfold character thus set forth have rightly observed that a complete character is meant to be depicted, and by the sevenfold blessedness attached to it, a perfect blessedness is intended.

Poor in Spirit

it is plainly a frame of mind which those terms are meant to express

“those who in their deepest consciousness realize their entire need”

If God were taken out of the equation - I would be nothing

All I have is God’s grace and nothing else

It a realization of the Truth and not acting out fake piety.

The Kingdom is already in us - as we depend upon God for everything

Unless we realize that - The Kingdom of God is not for us

EXAMPLE -When someone passes away - the sole purpose of your life, we feel disillusioned. Doing anything just seems to be worth nothing.

This self-emptying conviction, that “before God we are void of everything,” lies at the foundation of all spiritual excellence, according to the teaching of Scripture. Without it we are inaccessible to the riches of Christ; with it we are in the fitting state for receiving all spiritual supplies

स्वर्ग का राज्य उनके लिये ही है।

“और तुम भी धन्य हो क्योंकि जब लोग तुम्हारा अपमान करें, तुम्हें यातनाएँ दें, और मेरे लिये तुम्हारे विरोध में तरह तरह की झूठी बातें कहें, बस इसलिये कि तुम मेरे अनुयायी हो, तब तुम प्रसन्न रहना, आनन्द से रहना, क्योंकि स्वर्ग में तुम्हें इसका प्रतिफल मिलेगा। यह वैसा ही है जैसे तुमसे पहले के भविष्यवक्ताओं को लोगों ने सताया था।
