Ephesians 2:1–2 ESV
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—
Ephesians 2:3–4 ESV
among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,
Ephesians 2:5–6 ESV
even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
Ephesians 2:7–8 ESV
so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Ephesians 2:9–10 ESV
not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Theme/Point: Good works are to be our way of life.
Following the course of this world you are dead (v.1-2)
The ruler of the power of the air
The spirit at wrok in the world among those who are disobedient
Death through sin and trespasses
The power of the world is in the passions of the flesh and senses (v.3)
By natrue we were/are children of wrath
God’s great love, mercy, and grace has saved men (v.4-7)
Raises men up with Christ
Seated with Christ in the heavenly places
We were dead in our trespasses
So that …in the future, the grace of Jesus and His kindness may be known (v.7)
We are saved through faith, by the grace of God (v.8-9)
Salvation is a gift of God, not by works
Why? So that nobody can boast.
What does this mean? What does it mean to boast?
Who are we? (v.10)
What Christ has made us to be
Created in Christ to do good works
Predestined to be our way of life.
