We’ve only read one verse. Frankly, this verse is offensive to the audience.
Peter is clearly telling Israel that they have murdered the Messiah sent by Yahweh.
Furthermore, he proclaims that Jesus is Lord- “Adonai”- A holy title that the jews would never attribute to Ceasar, or any man.
If Peter had only preached this one verse, the audience would have stoned him and rejected Christ forever. Thankfully, there is much more to the sermon.
I want to examine Peter’s sermon today to show you the most effective way to preach the Word of God.

14 But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words.
15 “For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is the third hour of the day;
Note: many of us have been taught that wine in the bible is grape juice. Especially when the phrase “new wine” is used.
Obviously, Peter’s use of the term proves that this is intoxicating wine.
The issue with wine has always been to misuse and abuse of wine.
Peter’s claim is, “This is ridiculous. It’s 9M. These men are not drunk.”

19 ‘And I will put wonders in the sky above And signs on the earth below, Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.
20 ‘The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood, Before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.
21 ‘And it will be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
The people would not be convinced from just these verses that they are truly seeing a fulfilment of Scripture. Joel 2
Every major doctrine in Scripture is taught in multiple verses. There are no single verse doctrines.

23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of lawless men and put Him to death.
24 “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.
25 “For David says of Him, ‘I saw the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken.
26 ‘Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exulted; Moreover my flesh also will live in hope;
27 Because You will not forsake my soul to Hades, Nor give Your Holy One over to see corruption.
28 ‘You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.’
Peter is clear that Jesus Christ is the Messiah. Christ proved Himself by many miracles and wonders. He was killed, buried, and raised from the dead.
This is also a fulfilment of Prophecy. Peter quotes from Psalm 16.

11 You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.

The audience was condemned already because they had crucified the Lord.
Man is condemned already, because we have sinned against a Holy God.
God commands all men to repent!
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Man will not repent without Scripture being preached.
