Preparing the Way
Preparing the Way
God always prepares for wha tHe is about to do-
“But forget all that—
it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
The Lord is speaking through the Prophet Isaiah to tell people stop looking to the past and see what God is doing now
1. Wait for the Lord
1. Wait for the Lord
This isn’t idle waiting- it is an invitation-
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
To earnestly try to encounter the presence of a deity
Sow for yourselves righteousness;
reap steadfast love;
break up your fallow ground,
for it is the time to seek the Lord,
that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.
Seeking always produces a change
“Seek the Lord while he may be found;
call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
A Move of God always begins with 2 Chron 7:14
Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
It always begins with seeking- Even with the Gifts of the Spirit there must be a desire - 1 Cor 12:31
But earnestly desire the higher gifts.
And I will show you a still more excellent way.
It is seeking for the equipping to accomplish
It is seeking for the equipping to accomplish
Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
It is waiting on the Lord to empower us to carry the presence that give us the ability to accomplish
This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.
It is contending for the Promise of God
And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
In this verse Baptized is used twice
Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament based on Semantic Domains 53.41 βαπτίζω; βάπτισμα, τος; βαπτισμός, οῦ
53.41 βαπτίζωb; βάπτισμα, τος n; βαπτισμόςb, οῦ m: to employ water in a religious ceremony designed to symbolize purification and initiation on the basis of repentance—‘to baptize, baptism.
John Baptized you in repentance- the washing away of sin
2.
53.49 βαπτίζωc: (a figurative extension of meaning of βαπτίζωb ‘to baptize,’ 53.41) to cause someone to have a highly significant religious experience involving special manifestations of God’s power and presence—‘to baptize.’ αὐτὸς δὲ βαπτίσει ὑμᾶς ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ ‘but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit’
Johgn prophesied of this baptism
“I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
The Holy Spirit and Fire- Wait for this moment and move when it happens
That is when the gifts come through the anointing
Acts 1:12-26- The Disciples are seeking God together as they wait for the Spirit- The promise was anointing that cause a move!
A move of God
A move of God
Will always begin with hunger and that causes seeking
They waited and the sought the Lord- that is where Act 2 picks up
Will always begin with the Holy Spirit moving in the Lives of the believers
Will always spill over into the Streets
Will always have signs that show the manifestation of the Spirit
Will Shake regions and have affects that echo through history
2. Move with the Lord-
2. Move with the Lord-
A Move of the Spirit will always flow from the anointing
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
