The Power of Faith in Uncertainty

On the next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met Him. And a man from the crowd shouted, saying, “Teacher, I beg You to look at my son, for he is my only boy, and a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly screams, and it throws him into a convulsion with foaming at the mouth; and only with difficulty does it leave him, mauling him as it leaves. “I begged Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not.” And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.” While he was still approaching, the demon slammed him to the ground and threw him into a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy and gave him back to his father. And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. But while everyone was marveling at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples, “Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.” But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.

1. Confronting Crisis of Faith

On the next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met Him. So the truth is that life is difficult sometimes.

Sometimes it feels like you hit a road block the end of a road

you cant see a way out

The difficulty faced by the disciples when they failed to cast out the demon and in many times is like in our own struggles our own shortcomings and when we find our selves in these situations that seem to bring us to a place of uncertainty.

In these moments, the disciples were confronted with their lack of faith and understanding. I want you today to focus on the realization that our human limitations can often lead us to doubt, but these moments should push us to rely more deeply on Jesus' power and authority over all circumstances.

In Matt we see a little more to the Story

Matthew 17:15–23 NASB95

“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is a lunatic and is very ill; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. “I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him.” And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.” And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured at once. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not drive it out?” And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you. “But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” And while they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men; and they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day.” And they were deeply grieved.

Some things only come by prayer and fasting

denying what the body wants what the body needs what the body craves for what the spirit needs what the spirit craves what the spirit wants

the war between our flesh and spirit is real

We are very comfortable in our flesh we see it touch it taste it

but many of our spirits are starving to death because we do not nurture it

and we wonder why we cant move mountains

How much prayer 5 min a day

there are 1440 min in a day and we think we covered the basis with one simple heartfelt prayer that lasted 5-10 min

in a week there is 10,080 min so lets say you pray earnestly for 10 min a day thats 70 min out of 10080 min that week

there is 43800 in a month so you pray earnestly for 300 min in a month out of 43 thousand 800 min

this isn't even including fasting

It is a real truth that struck me in the gut because i like to think I pray allot but when you put a pen to paper

to give 10% of my time in prayer is

144 min a day that’s over 2 hours of serious prayer a day

1008 min a week that’s 16 hours

that’s 4380 min a month that’s 70 hours a week

so whats holding us back whats our greatest idol what did Jesus tell his disciples

what do you think he would say to us to you.

why do we complain when we dont feel like our prayer is heard are we serious in prayer or just covering the basis

2. Christ's Constant Authority

And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.” While he was still approaching, the demon slammed him to the ground and threw him into a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy and gave him back to his father. And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. But while everyone was marveling at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples,

Matthew 17:15–23 NASB95

Jesus was obviously annoyed about their lack of faith.

At this point they had seen him do all kinds of things they themselves had been sent out two by two and did miricles in his name and now well doubt set in

Isnt that how our walk looks like sometimes we started out on fire full of raw passion and crazy mountain moving belief and after a while it began to fade and little by little we shrunk back and didnt even realize that we were worshiping in doubt not faith

But God is Good even when we are weak Amen

Jesus, despite His disappointment, demonstrates His unwavering authority by healing the boy. This point suggests that in our moments of doubt, Christ’s power and authority remain steadfast, inviting us to trust in His ability to transform our inadequacies into moments of divine intervention, encouraging deeper faith.

3. Clarity through Christ's Prophecy

Luke 9:44–45 NASB95

“Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.” But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.

The importance of Jesus' prophetic statement about His impending betrayal is a pivotal moment of misunderstanding among the disciples.

While they could not comprehend His words, this section serves as a reminder that even when we don't fully understand God's plans, faith in Jesus’s redemptive power offers ultimate hope and clarity. This point underscores the necessity of trust in Christ’s overarching plans in our lives Even and especially in the midst of our confusion and misunderstanding of his plan, even if its looks nothing like what we hoped we can look to his plan with a hope for he has redeemed you and set you free his ultimate work in you was enough the day he gave up everything for you in the cross

# times i asked the lord to deliver me from the thorn in my flesh and he replied unto me my grace is sufficient

Its his grace His mercy His redemption that is more than enough
