Day 2 — Israel Chosen by Sovereign Grace (Romans 9:1–5)
Day 2 — Israel Chosen by Sovereign Grace (Romans 9:1–5)
Title: “Chosen by God: Israel and the Sovereign Grace of Election”
OPENING
Welcome back to our journey through Romans 9–11 — God’s prophetic blueprint for Israel and the Church.
Today we step into a foundational truth:
Israel was chosen by sovereign grace — not by merit, not by greatness, not by perfection — but by God’s covenant love and purpose.
PAUL’S BURDEN REVEALS GOD’S HEART
PAUL’S BURDEN REVEALS GOD’S HEART
📖 Romans 9:1–3
“I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart…
for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh.”
Paul — filled with the Holy Spirit — is grief-stricken for Israel’s salvation.
Why? Because God’s heart burns for Israel too.
If Paul weeps for Israel, the Church should not rage against Israel —
we should intercede for them.
ISRAEL’S UNIQUE CALLING
ISRAEL’S UNIQUE CALLING
📖 Romans 9:4–5
“Who are Israelites, to whom belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises;
whose are the fathers, and from whom is the Christ according to the flesh…”
Look what God entrusted to Israel:
✅ Adoption — God called them His
✅ Glory — His manifest presence among them
✅ Covenants — eternal agreements
✅ The Law — God’s holy standard
✅ Temple Worship — the priesthood and sacrifices
✅ Promises — prophetic blessing
✅ The Patriarchs — Abraham, Isaac, Jacob
✅ And ultimately… the Messiah Himself
Jesus did not come from Rome, Athens, or America —
He came through Israel.
GOD’S CALL WAS NOT EARNED
GOD’S CALL WAS NOT EARNED
📖 Deut. 7:7–8
“The LORD did not set His love on you because you were more in number…
but because the LORD loves you.”
Israel was chosen the same way we were chosen —
By grace, not by works.
Israel didn’t “deserve” this —
but neither do we deserve salvation.
God chose Israel.
God chose the Church.
And God never abandons what He sovereignly chooses.
DOES ISRAEL’S FAILURE CANCEL GOD’S PROMISE?
DOES ISRAEL’S FAILURE CANCEL GOD’S PROMISE?
No.
Even in rebellion, exile, unbelief — God remained faithful.
📖 Romans 11:29
“For the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable.”
Irrevocable.
Not canceled, not conditional, not transferred.
APPLICATION FOR US
APPLICATION FOR US
If God remains faithful to Israel despite mistakes and rebellion…
Then God remains faithful to you.
When God makes covenant —
He keeps covenant.
His calling on your life is not canceled.
His promise is not void.
His love does not run dry.

Day 2 — Israel Chosen by Sovereign Grace
Day 2 — Israel Chosen by Sovereign Grace
Today we see that Israel’s status as God’s chosen people is rooted in His sovereign grace.
Paul wept for Israel because God’s heart burns for Israel.
God entrusted them with His glory, His covenants, and the Messiah Himself.
The calling of Israel is not canceled — it is irrevocable (Romans 11:29).
This truth fuels hope for the Church too:
God finishes what He starts.
Let His covenant faithfulness strengthen your faith today.
