Introduction: as I prepared

to preach

for this morning

I came across a poem

that I want to share

with you

this morning

it says

Christ for sickness, Christ for health,

Christ for poverty, Christ for wealth,

Christ for joy, Christ for sorrow,

Christ today and Christ tomorrow;

Christ my Life, and Christ my Light,

Christ for morning, noon and night,

Christ when all around gives way

Christ my everlasting Stay;

Christ my Rest, and Christ my Food

Christ above my highest good,

Christ my Well-beloved Friend

Christ my Pleasure without end;

Christ my Savior, Christ my Lord

Christ my Portion, Christ my God,

Christ my Shepherd, I His sheep

Christ Himself my soul to keep;

Christ my Leader, Christ my Peace

Christ hath wrought my soul's release,

Christ my Righteousness divine

Christ for me, for He is mine;

Christ my Wisdom, Christ my Meat,

Christ restores my wandering feet,

Christ my Advocate and Priest

Christ who ne'er forgets the least;

Rev 10:1-3

the Bible says

in Revelation 10:1–3 “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth, And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.”

Here in Revelation 10

The apostle John said

Beginning in verse 1

(Revelation 10:1–3 “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth, And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.”

What a vision that was

That John saw!

Now

we have been talking

About

The visions

That God gave

the apostle John.

The visions

Of the book

Of the Revelation.

And

Let me just say

A word or two

About this book.

This book

First of all

Is Not fiction.

It is the inerrant

Infallible

Inspired

Word

Of the living God

Is what God

Wanted John

To deliver to us.

It is Truth!

And because it is…

We need to understand it…

Believe it…

And pass it on…

To others.

Because

I don’t know about you

But I believe

We are living

In the last days!

But

John opened this book

With a focus

On the King of kings

And Lord of lords

The Lord Jesus Christ!

In fact

In chapter 1:1

John said

That this is

(Revelation 1:1 “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:”

And as you read chapters 2

and 3

You find that

Our Savior

Gave seven sermons

To the seven churches

Of Asia minor

Which have implications today.

Then

As you get to Chapter 4

John was taken into heaven.

And again

John is a picture

Of the local church

Which will one day soon

We believe

Which one day soon

Will be enraptured

But

As John stood there in heaven

He saw Almighty God

God the Father.

And He was holding

A seven sealed scroll

In His hand

And

of all the inhabitants

of heaven…

Only the Lord Jesus Christ

Was found worthy

To open the scroll.

Our Savior

stepped forward

And took Scroll

Out of the hand of God

And began

To open the seven seals

And when He did

The tribulation

Commenced

The antichrist

Comes on the scene

And eventually

Peace

Was taken from the earth.

Terrible plagues…

Worldwide famine…

And world wars

Became a part

Of everyday life

For Earth dwellers

For

All of those Earth dwellers

Who had not previously

Accepted Jesus Christ

As their Savior,

What an awful time

Those beginning days

Of the great tribulation

Will be

And

By the way

I’m so thankful

This morning

That I won’t be part

Of the tribulation

And let me tell you why

The

Bible says

In 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

Now the word we...

That I just read

Describes those

Who are believers

Those of us

Who have

trusted Jesus Christ

As our Savior

Will be caught up together!

And we

will meet the Lord

In the air!

So when that tribulation commences

I’m going up

Up into heaven

And I hope you are too.

But

As those seven seals

Are opened

God will send seven judgments

To judge the inhabitants

Of the world.

With the seventh seal

Bringing about silence

In fact

It says

In Revelation 8:1 “And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.”

And eventually

Seven more judgments

Come upon this world

Seven trumpet judgments

And

When they do

There will be death and destruction

On this planet

The likes

That have never been witnessed before

And When it is all said

And done

One third of the population

Of this world

Will

Have died

Or been killed

By famine

Disease

Cataclysmic events

And wars.

No one

Will be immune

To these judgments

By the way

During the tribulation

God will use

Two witnesses

Lead scores of people

To Christ

During those dark days.

And while Those converts

will be hunted

By the antichrist

They will not be affected

By some of the judgments

That fall upon this world

Judgments

Like demons

Attacking people.

And by the way

That’s not Hollywood

Writing the script

That is heaven

Giving the Scripture

But oh

What an awful

Awful-time

The tribulation

Will be

But

Two weeks ago

I preached a sermon

Entitled

When the demons

Declare war

And

We talked about

Four demons

Who motivated

And empowered

A 200 million man army

To go forth

Killing people

And again

I’m so thankful

I Won't be there

To witness these awful events

And

Let me say that

You don’t have to be there either

Because friend

listen

God loves you

God loves you so much

That He gave His only Son

To die on Calvary’s cross

To pay for all of your sins

See

You like me

are a sinner

In fact

The Bible says

In Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

But it also says

In Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

But see

The Lord Jesus Christ

Paid our sin debt

By dying

On the cross of Calvary

And He therefore

Provides us

With the gift of God

Which is eternal life

And the point is

You

Don’t have to have

Eternal damnation.

That isn’t what God wants for you.

You can have

Eternal life…

By simply putting your faith and trust

In the Lord Jesus Christ

And

Before you leave here

This morning

I hope you will

In chapter 10

Let’s read

The entire chapter

John said

(Revelation 10 “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth, And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets. And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.”

As we read that chapter

I want us

to first of all

Consider the vision

That John saw

In this passage,

John sees

a “mighty Angel”

descending from Heaven.

now

We are not given

the identity

of this Angel.

But that being said

Some people believe

it could be Gabriel

the archangel.

Others vote

for Michael.

But

Many people believe

And I among them

That this Angel

is none other

than the Lord Jesus Christ.

And

Allow me

If you would

To give you

several reasons why.

you may remember,

Jesus showed up

in the Old Testament

Often.

and these pre-Bethlehem appearances

Of the Lord Jesus Christ

are called “Theophanies

or Christophanies”.

For example

Jesus appeared to Abraham

at his tent door.

Jesus appeared

to Samson’s mother and father.

Jesus appeared

to Joshua

outside of Jericho.

Jesus met

with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego

in the furnace.

Jesus

helped Daniel

in the Lion’s den.

so…

If He could show up

On all those occasions

there is no reason

to believe

that

He could not do

the same thing

in these verses.

In the Revelation

In fact,

as these verses

are studied,

all the evidence points

to the fact

that

this Mighty Angel

Mentioned in verse 1

is none other

than Jesus Christ

Himself.

Let’s examine

the evidence together.

And number 1

We are told about

The Dwelling place

Of this mighty Angel.

Again John said

in Verse 1

(Revelation 10:1 “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:”

This mighty Angel

Was apparently dwelling

In heaven

the very place

Where Jesus Christ dwells.

In fact

The Bible says

Speaking of Jesus Christ

in John 3:13, “And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.”

And

The truth is

Our Savior

is in Heaven today,

seated

at the Father’s Right hand,

making intercession

for you and me,

The Bible tells us

in Heb. 1:3; 10:12.

But

Not only are we given

The dwelling place

Of this Mighty Angel

But we are likewise given

His description

It says there in verse 1

That He is

“clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:” “

Now

Think about that

This Angel

Is clothed with a cloud.

and the cloud

is a garment of deity,

In fact

The psalmist said

About the Lord God

in Psa. 104:3, “Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind”!

And

Not only that

but

In the Old Testament,

during the wilderness wanderings,

the Lord Himself

led His people

with a glory cloud

through the trackless desert, Ex. 16.

was with them

to guide them

and guard them then.

And likewise

Here in our Text

In the darkest days

the earth will ever see,

We find the Lord

still with His people

to protect them

and lead them.

And isn’t God good!

But

then again

God clothed Himself

in a glory cloud

when He met Moses

on the mountain,

in Ex. 24, 34.

and

When Jesus

ascended back to Heaven,

a cloud received Him, Acts 1:9.

and when He returns,

He will do so

in the clouds, 1 Thes. 4:16-17; Rev. 1:7.

And

Here in Revelation 10:1

The Lord Jesus

Is once again

Clothed

In a cloud

But

As we read here

We find that

This Mighty Angel

Was not only Clothed

In a cloud

But at the same time too

He Has A Rainbow

Upon His Head –

now

The rainbow

is a symbol

of the mercy

and faithfulness of God.

and it first appeared

in Gen. 9

after the flood

to guarantee

the Lord’s promise

that

He would never again

destroy the earth

with water.

so it is a symbol

of His faithfulness.

But a rainbow

Likewise appears

in Rev. 4,

where

the throne of God

is surrounded

with an emerald rainbow.

and here,

it is a symbol of His mercy.

So,

In our text

the Lord comes

as the faithful One

and as the merciful One.

and

What a blessing it is

to know that

even in the midst of wrath,

the Lord remembers mercy, Hab. 3:2.

But

Not only

Was this Mighty Angel

In the person of the Lord Jesus

Clothes in a cloud

With a rainbow

On His head

But

At the same time to

And this is very important

but

His Face Shines Like The Sun –

now

This is a description

of His glory!

By the way

When Jesus walked

the dusty roads

of this world,

He appeared

to be an ordinary man.

So ordinary

In fact

that He did not stand out

as anyone special .

by His appearance alone. Isa. 53:2-3.

but He concealed

His heavenly fame

within

His earthly frame, Phil. 2:5-8

oh but

there was one occasion

when His glory

came out,

Read it sometime

in Matt. 17:1-8.

But in that passage

the glory Of God

that was on the inside

Of the Lord Jesus Christ

became visible

on the outside

and

Matthew tells us

that Jesus

outshone the sun!

There

Was another occasion

When Saul of Tarsus

met The Savior

on the road to Damascus,

And on that occasion

The Bible says

That Jesus

was brighter

than the noonday sun, Acts 9.

By the way,

men love darkness,

but when the Light

shines on their sins,

they are brought to their knees

before the glorious Lamb of God.

But

Not only was this Mighty Angel

In the person of Jesus

Clothed with a cloud

With a rainbow

On His head

And not only

Did His face shine

Like the sun

But

His Feet

Are Like Pillars Of Fire

It says in verse 1

And

This is a picture

of His judgment.

see

When Jesus comes,

He is not coming

The second time

as the Savior.

He is coming back

as the Sovereign Lord

of the universe.

and

He is coming

to execute judgment

on all those

who have rejected Him!

And incidentally

The word “pillars”

Brings to mind images

of firmness,

stability

and strength.

When we see this Angel

We are looking at God

The Son

Who is rock steady

and able

to carry out

His mission.

and

He is going to judge

this world,

Including the sinners in the world

and Satan himself,

and no being

will be able to prevent Him

from doing

what He intends

to do!

Deliberation

But

As we think about

The dwelling place

Of this Mighty Angel

Who is the Lord Jesus Christ

And as we think about

His description

And

As we read this text

We Are also told

of His dominion

It says in verse 1 – 3

Here in Revelation 10

Now

When I read that passage

I can’t help

But to think to myself

That Here

is a wonderful picture

of our Lord.

Because

He is standing

with one foot

on the land,

one foot on the sea

and He has a little book

in His hand.

What a picture

of His dominion

over the entire world

By the way

In ancient time,

when a person

was going to take dominion

over a place or a person,

he put his foot on it.

As a matter of fact

When God gave Canaan

to Israel,

He said,

“Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses”, Joshua 1:3.

Likewise

When one king

would conquer another king,

he would place his foot

on the defeated king’s neck

as a symbol

of total domination.

But

we also told

that He “cried

with a loud voice,

as when a lion roareth”.

And by way information

It is said that

the roaring of a lion

can strike fear

into the bravest heart.

In fact

An adult male lion’s roar

can be heard

as far as five miles

away.

But see

Lions roar

to proclaim a place

as their territory.

and

That is what we are seeing

in these verses.

The Lord Jesus Christ

is staking His claim .

and He is saying,

“I am the Lion

of the Tribe of Judah.

This world

is my world.

Keep your hands off

what belongs to me!”

and that

My dear friends

Is what we see here.

We see the victorious Jesus

laying claim

to the planet earth.

holds in His hand

the book,

which is the title deed

to the planet.

He stands with one foot

on the dry land

and another

on the sea.

In our text

Jesus has come

to take control

of this world.

He has come

to take over!

Just let the world

And the devil

do what they will,

But

our Lord reigns today!

and He will

forever

But

Now that we’ve talked about

The vision

That John saw

The vision

Of this Mighty angel

Who is the Lord Jesus Christ

Now that we’ve talked about

The vision

Let’s talk about

II. The voice John heard

Declaration

The

Voice

That John heard

And read with me

Versus 3 – 7

Here in Revelation 10

John said

(Revelation 10:3–7 “And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.”

Now

Think about these voices

That John Heard.

First of all

They were voices

Of mystery.

see,

John hears seven thunders

speaking.

and

Apparently

they spoke a language

John couldn’t

understand

and he got ready

to write down

what they were saying.

But,

the Lord stopped him

and told John

to seal up those things

which he heard

the thunders say

So,

what did they say?

welI

I do not know!

Neither does any one else!

Why write about it ?

if we are not told

what they say?

You might ask

well

God has some things

that He wants to keep

concealed

for the time being.

As a matter fact

Paul writes of a time

when he was caught up

into the third Heaven.

was taken into very presence

of God

and he was not allowed

to write about it, 2 Corinthians 12:4 “How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.”

The reason

God puts this here

In Revelation 10

is very simple.

I think.

He wants to teach us

a very valuable lesson.

wants us to know

that there are just some things

in life

that are going to remain

a mystery!

In fact

Deut. 29:29 Says

“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.”

And

By the way

There are thousands of questions

in life for

which you and I

do not have answers.

For example

Why do good people suffer?

Why do babies

get sick and die?

Why is there so much evil

in our world?

Why is living holy

so hard?

and

We will never have

the answers

to these

and ten thousand other questions

this side of Heaven.

The best thing

we can do

is to leave the mysteries

with the Lord

and trust Him

to do right, Ill. Gen. 18:25; Rom. 8:28; 2 Cor 4:17.

And

Here is the thing

Right now

we are looking

at the carpet of life

from the bottom

and it looks

like a tangled mess

of threads.

oh but

One day,

we will be allowed

to look at the carpet

from the top.

It will make sense then!

I’m reminded

Of what Paul said

, “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known,”1 Cor. 13:12.

But see

As the apostle John

Heard these voices

They were voices

of Mystery

Discussion

Likewise

They were voices

Of manifestation.

In fact

Read with me

Versus 5 – 7

John said

Revelation 10:5–7 “And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.”

Now

Think about that

While the voices

of the thunders

remained a mystery,

To John

the

next voice

John heard

Brought a message

that was crystal clear.

Because that Person

John saw

In verse 1

lifted

His holy hands

and makes a tremendous promise.

He tells John

that the days of waiting

are finished.

And that

God is preparing

to consummate His work

and complete

His Word.

John

Then understands that

God is preparing

to bring His work of judgment

and redemption

to an end.

AND

In case you have forgotten,

God does not operate

like we do.

His timetable

is vastly different

from ours.

Because sometimes

We think

we are in a period

of delay.

We think things

are moving too slowly.

We think God

will never fulfill

all the promises

He has made.

but

we are wrong!

Because

God wears

a different kind of timepiece

than we do,

In fact

The Bible says

in 2 Peter 3:8 “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

it may appear

that sin and Satan

are winning the battle.

but the Reality

Is quite different

Determination

And

The point is

In the day in which we are living

It seems that

the devil

is up to bat

And it seems that

He’s batting a thousand

but

one of these days

God’s half

of the inning

is going to come up

and there'll be no more delay.

Our God

Will take care of business!

I am

Reminded of the words

of Heb. 10:37,

Which says

“For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.”

man

I like that!

Don’t you?

It might look like

Satan has the upper hand

In this day and time

And even in the tribulation

May appear

Like the devils side

Is winning

But

According to God’s calendar,

Jesus Christ

has only been gone

two days.

and

Soon,

God is going to turn

the page,

He is going

to tell Gabriel

to blow his trumpet

And when He does

Jesus

will return

for His church.

and then,

God will judge the earth,

and the devil.

He will then

usher in

eternity.

So Christian

If it feels like

Our side is losing

If it feels like

The devil

has won the victory

Well

Hang on…

It won’t be long now!

And Jesus

Will shout the victory

Hallelujah!

But

As we think about

The vision

That John saw

This vision

Of a mighty Angel

Who was the Lord Jesus Christ

And

As we think about

The voices

John heard

Those mysterious voices

Of thunder

And that meaningful voice

Of our Savior

As He said

There should be time

No longer

III. The volume John took

Declaration

But as we think about the vision

And as we consider

The voices John heard

Let’s also consider

The Volume

That John took

And read with me

Versus 8 – 11

Here in this text

John said

(Revelation 10:8–11 “And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.”

Now

I want you

To think about that .

John is told

to take the little book

out of the hand

of the Angel.

he is told then

to eat it,

but

he is warned

that the book

will be sweet in his mouth

and bitter

in his stomach.

but

John does

as he is told

and finds that

the words

of the Angel

are true.

The book was sweet

as honey

to his taste;

but it was bitter

in his belly.

but then

John is told

that he is to take the message

that he has been given

and

he is to share it

with others

who need to hear.

Now granted

This is a strange little section

of Scripture.

but it does,

teach us

a couple of lessons

about the Word of God

that we need to hear today.

And

First of all

The Word Of God

Is To Be Swallowed –

Because see

the Bible

is spiritual food.

In fact

Jesus said,

“It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God,” Matthew 4:4.

Jeremiah said,

“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts,” Jer. 15:16.

Job said,

“I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food,” Job 23:12.

Peter said,

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby,” 1 Pet. 1:22.

And

The point is

There is just

something special

about this Book!

is food

for the hungry soul.

It is a balm

for the hurting soul.

It is meat

for the growing soul.

If we are

to be all

that God wants us

to be,

then

we need to get into

the Book

and feed.

We are

in fact

to linger there

and graze there.

We are to drink deeply

of its Words

so that our souls can grow strong

in the things of the Lord.

What

I’m saying is

If you want to be a strong Christian

If we want to be...

then

We must get into the Bible,

for ourselves,

every day!

Christian

Let me ask you

Are you feeding

in the green pastures

of this Word

as you should?

well remember

you are what you eat!

But

that being said

When John swallowed

the Book,

he found that it

was both

a blessing

and burden.

It was sweet

and it was bitter

at the same time.

And

When it comes

To the Bible

man,

The sweetness of this Book

can be found

in its passages

about the grace,

love

and mercy

of our God

I mean

When we read of Jesus dying

for our sins

and rising from the dead

it is so very sweet.

When we read of Heaven;

it is so sweet.

When we read that He will meet

our needs;

never leave us;

and That one day

Will come to take us home

that is also

so sweet!

When the sinner reads

that Jesus will save him

if he will only come

to Jesus by faith

that is sweeter

than words can describe!

but this Book

is a book filled with sweetness!

but

I need you to hear this

This Bible

is also a Book

filled with bitterness.

because

this Book tells us

about a Hell

that awaits all the lost.

It is this Book

that the Spirit of God

uses

to convict the hearts of saints

and sinners alike

of their sin.

This Book

tells of judgment,

wrath

and damnation.

It is a bitter book too.

And

The point I’m making is

That Sometimes

I read my Bible

and I am thrilled

and blessed

and helped.
