END OF SERMON
Some of us are saying what a minute!!!
That sounds nice…is true
But do you realize the financial situation that I am right now? I feel like I have a lot to worry about.
Or do you realize the relational status I am in right now?
Or where my family is, or my marriage is, or things going on with my body.
I see a lot things to worry about!!!
Don’t worry how can I do that….that doesn’t make sense in our mind.
How or why can that be true???
Don’t worry. Trust Jesus. Be Happy. Be Blessed
But the saying is true and Good News is Jesus and God’s Word is unpacks for us what that is true
Jesus shows us in the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus’ first sermon in the heart of the sermon he first tells them what we learned last week.
Matthew 6:19–24 ESV
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Jesus says do not treasure earthly things, treasure heavenly things.
Where you heart is there is your treasure
You cannot serve two masters
Jesus says
Matthew 6:25 ESV
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
When Jesus says "do not worry," the Greek word used is "μεριμνᾶτε" (merimnate), which comes from the root "merimnao." This word carries the idea of being pulled in different directions, almost like your mind is being torn apart by anxiety. It's a kind of fretful, anxious state where you’re not just thoughtfully concerned—you're consumed by it.
Shalom means to be whole
In contrast, having "concern" can be healthy. Concern is more like a thoughtful awareness or a sense of responsibility. It’s when you say, “I care about this, and I’ll take action if needed,” but you’re not letting it dominate your heart or steal your peace.
Financial situaiton is bad
Have a health concern
Jesus goes after some of our basic needs
Do not be anxious or worry about your provision
Psalm 23:1 ESV
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Do not be worry about your health
Or clothing and image
WHY?
Matthew 6:26 ESV
Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
God provides for the birds
Matthew 6:28–29 ESV
And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
God clothes the fields
Matthew 6:27 ESV
And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?
How many of us have wasted time worrying about something.
All day or week worrying about
What does she think of you
Health report
Financial sitituation
AND THEN TO MAKE MATTERS WORESE WE WORRY AND FIND OUT WE HAD NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT
Studies say less then 90% of things we worry about never come to pass
Matthew 6:31–32 ESV
Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
God knows you need them and will provide for you!
He knows what you need
He’s not going I wonder what Michelle needs in her life
Matthew 6:33–34 ESV
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Jesus says seek the kingdom of God and God your heavenly father will take care of your life.
Translation surrender control of your life to your heavenly father
God promises to take care of you…You be about the kingdom God takes care of your life
I also love what Paul writes in Phil 4 in a jail cell.
Philippians 4:4 ESV
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
Double command.
We need to turn or Worry to worship
Why? It gets our eyes and hearts on him
How many of us today our worries were changed with worship?
Philippians 4:6–7 ESV
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Turn or worry to prayer
How many us have worry and planned and then we pray and peace comes
What a friend we have in Jesus,
What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!
Transform our minds
60,000 thoughts 80% negative
1 Corinthians 10:5 ESV
Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Philippians 4:8 ESV
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Change our thinkiing
Footprints in the Sand by Mary Stevenson
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord, “You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there have only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?”
The Lord replied, “The times when you have seen only one set of footprints, is when I carried you.”
