Thankful For God's Understanding

You don’t need to know it all

Text:
Psalm 139:1–6 “1 O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. 2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, Thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, And art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, And laid thine hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain unto it.”
Exodus 34:6–7 “6 And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.”
Hebrews 4:12–13 “12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”
Introduction
Man’s sin disrupted God’s rest from creation. Follow the fall of man, God entered into a redemptive work. On the very front-end of His redemptive plan, God was on a mission to reveal Himself to a chosen people in order to bring knowledge of Himself to the entire current and future world.
Think of a few event when it comes to God’s desire for the world to know Him: Creation, the fall, flood, Babel, Exodus, Mt. Sinai, calling of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and ultimately sending Jesus down in human flesh to pay our sin debt.
Now, I am going to say something that might make you think I am crazy: “I am glad I don’t have to know it all!” Something even more crazy might be this statement: “It is a joy to not understand it all!”
There is a false assumption in most people’s mind: “If I just knew exactly how it would play out, I would have far more peace in my heart.”
Notice verse 6 of Psalm 139:6 “6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain unto it.”
I want to set a very high goal for you to petition the Lord for for the rest of your life. It is this: “Lord, help me to joyfully accept your understanding of all things pertaining to my life when outcomes are beyond my understanding.”
So why should we celebrate the omniscience of God?

1) God Understands You Deeply

I can’t under rate this statement… “I am so thankful God searches me and knows me!”
LISTEN...I often times don’t even know myself!
Have you every had a moment when you said, “I can’t believe I just did that!”
In the words of the famous nerd from Family Matters, Steve Ercle, “Did I Do That?”

A. God sees right through you

a) What does the word “searched” mean?
It literally means “to pierce through”
Have you ever said, “I can see right through that person?”
What are you actually saying?
You are able to see through the lies, the façade, the empty performance.
Example: It reminds me of Hagar’s words after being sent away into the desert: Genesis 16:13 “13 And she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?”
