Opening Scripture:
Opening Scripture:
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.
Paul is addressing the church in Corinth, a wealthy and influential Greek city known for its moral looseness and cultural pride.
The city was filled with temples, philosophies, and lifestyles that encouraged self-indulgence and immorality.
Some of the believers in Corinth had misunderstood the message of Christian freedom. They were quoting slogans like: “I have the right to do anything,”
likely a phrase used to justify behavior that contradicted the gospel, including sexual immorality and excess.
Paul affirms that Christians have freedom in Christ, but he immediately corrects their misunderstanding: true freedom in Christ is not a license to do whatever we want — it’s the power to live in a way that honors God.
In our modern day we don’t just deal with sexual immorality but also addiction and obsession with technology
The technological struggle is not regarding the struggle to use technology but instead complete dependency upon it.
Our modern day culture has become so distracted by the addiction to technology that they are missing out on everyday life
Disconnect To Reconnect
Disconnect To Reconnect
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Among U.S. teens ages 13-17: 95% report having access to a smartphone at home; 88% report access to a desktop or laptop computer; 70% report access to a tablet.
Among U.S. households with children (under 18), tablet ownership was ~80% in 2021; versus ~57% of households without children
For adults: A study noted that smartphone users ages 50+ were about twice as likely as those under 50 to say they mostly access the internet via computer (43% vs. 21%).
In the 80’s and 90’s Parents made their children go outside to play — Children during these years enjoyed playing outside with friends.
In the mid 2000’s as technology became more evolved the less children went outside to play.
Parents now encourage their children to play video games as opposed to being active outside
We try to calm our younger generation by handing them a device instead of something that could be more productive
As technology continues to evolve we become more and more enslaved to it….
Scripture teaches us to NOT conform to the pattern’s of this life but instead to be transformed by renewing our mind…
We renew our mind by staying connected to God’s word Daily…
We renew our mind by ALWAYS putting God first.
In order to effectively renew our minds we MUST disconnect from the source of distraction and reconnect to God’s presence!!
What Are You Seeking After?
What Are You Seeking After?
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Jesus reminds us that it is important to Seek God first in ALL things!
Technology has become a huge distraction within our society — doesn’t make technology bad, just distracted by it.
We become distracted by the very things that we are oblivious to… We scroll, we swipe, we tap — and don’t even realize how much of our attention has been taken captive.
When you pick up your device before you pick up God’s word — That is what you are seeking after
Has Technology mastered you or have you mastered it?
Who has Lordship over your life the scroll or Jesus?!?!?!?
Guarding Your Gaze In A Distracted Age
Guarding Your Gaze In A Distracted Age
Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
preserve my life according to your word.
This is an effective prayer that repositions our hearts…
It’s easy to fall in the trap of being distracted by fancy new things
Always remember your relationship with God is way more cooler than any new tech that comes out on the market
The best way to guard your gaze is by keeping it grounded in God’s word
The best way NOT to become distracted is realize when it has become a distraction
Technology is great and beneficial but it was never meant to take God’s place within your life
What is your gazed fixed on?
