By Show of hands, who used to be scared of the dark when we were kids…
One dad said his 5-year-old daughter would scream every night because her teddy bear’s eyes “glowed red in the dark.” Turns out, the red light was from the smoke detector above her bed reflecting perfectly off the bear’s plastic eyes. He moved the bear — problem solved, monster defeated.
A mom wrote that her son was terrified of a “shadow man” who stood in his closet. Every night he’d call her in tears. When she finally went to investigate, she realized it was his own Batman costume hanging on the closet door. The next morning she told him, “See? Batman was just guarding your room!” He wasn’t buying it for weeks.
A little boy was sure a monster was watching him from under the bed. His parents crawled under to show him there was nothing there… only to see two glowing eyes staring back! Everyone screamed — until the “monster” started purring. It was the family cat, who had been napping under the bed the whole time.
The dark is a scary place when you’re young . Maybe even so scary that you sacrifice sleep.
Maybe tonight scared you, someone walked around the corner… and scared you!
However, God tells us in Col 1:13-14 that if we believe in him, he has delivered us from the domain od darkness.
Colossians 1:13–14 “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
So what does this mean… Domain of darkness sounds like something you’d hear in a video game or a movie… The domain in Darkness.
What does this mean? God has delievered us from sin.
Maybe you’re wondering what sin is? Sin is anything we do that doesn’t bring glory to God. So many things we do is sinful. Examples, llying, cheating, lusting.
God is so perfect, so holy, so amazing that even one little thing we’ve done wrong deserves eternal death. Or hell. SO if you’re like me and literally made one mistake, we are in the domain of darkness. We’re going to hell.
So we have a problem, each one of us in this room, has done something room. God is too holy to be with us. Let’s keep reading
It says eHe trasnferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins
So it says we’ve been trasnfered. We desesrve eternity in hell, we’ve sinned we’ve fallen short. We’re sinners. We’ve been transfered…. Where? To the kingdom of his beloved Son. Who gives us redemption, forgivness of sins
Okay, so we understnad that we’ve sinned. What is this transfer
We’re sinner…. That deserve hell. Each and every one of us. SO GOd, sent his son Jesus..
Jesus lived a perfect life, never sinner, never made a mistake. Never fell short. He died on a cross for us….
A cross was the most brutal way to possibly die. It was shameful, incredibly painful. He did it for us. He did it for each one of our sins. He literally died for each one of us.
So he is our redemption. Redemption is the act of being saved. We’re in debt… that we can never pay. We can never be perfect.
You see, if you’ve never heard this before. THis is not news you can be nurtral too.
So maybe you read this verse and think that this is a transfer like a trade in Bastketball, the coach or staff trades the player.
This trasnfer, is us, in debt, the biggest debt we could ever imagine, and Jesus comes and takes it all upon himself and pays the cost. How does this transfer go through Eph 2:8-9 tells us
Ephesians 2:8–9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
It’s by grace we’re saved.. What is grace… Grace is recieving something we don’t deserve, which is Jesus dying for us to redeem us. SO me and you deserving hell, being in the domain of darkness and Jesus literally saying I’ll take it all upon me. THAT IS GRACE, THAT IS LOVE It says we’re saved by grace through faith. Faith that it’s by Jesus love we’re saved. Faith and belief that this is true. That JEsus loved you so much that He died for you
If you’ve already put your faith in HIm, use this as motivation to say thank you Jesus, I want to live for you! Serve you. Go back to Him tonight…
Maybe it’s your first time hearing this, or it’s different this time…
Do you realize tha you’re a sinner that needs His grace, that you need this transfer?
Do you see the grace Jesus has had on your life? Put your faith in Him tonight, if you’re wondering how to do that, I’d love to talk to you. Or one of your leaders would.
