Called To Holiness

1 Peter 1:13–16 “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

The Mandate to Be Holy (1 Peter 1:13–16)

A. The Call is Clear
“Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
This is not a suggestion; it’s a mandate rooted in God’s character.
God is Holy, therefore he wants his people to be such
2 Corinthians 6:14–18Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”
Holiness is a separation from the sins that I use to do and the sins of the world
Its not me being better than you its me being better than I use to be
Its me taking on the nature and attitude of Christ
B. Holiness is an Invitation, Not a Burden
God invites us to share His nature.
God is sinless, he doesn't dwell with sin. His nature purges sin
Holiness isn’t about restriction; it’s about reflection — looking more like Jesus.
Holiness is actually more of a guardrail
Its the boundary in which I can build my life, the principles of the Word that leads to goodness and peace and relationship with God
its the safety in which I am bound to him
Its him extending the invite to be like him
The challenge of the church today where very line is being pushed, every truth is being tried and tested, and the temptation to let down the principles that God has given us because they are so countercultural and may even seem a little bit extreme at times, the challenge of the church today is to keep the boundaries in place. But it is still written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
C. Holiness Is About Conduct
Holiness is not confined to appearance; it’s seen in speech, actions, and lifestyle.

The Need for Spirituality

The church can not just be holy, it also needs to be spiritual
We need to be connected to the spirit
Carnal believers live by feelings; spiritual believers live by faith and submission.
True spirituality is not about gifts, but growth — learning to walk consistently with God.
Being spiritual deals with our connection to the Spirit — intimacy, discernment, growth, and responsiveness. It’s the relationship side of walking with God.
Paul said the Corinthians were “not spiritual but carnal,” because though they had the Spirit, they weren’t letting Him shape their decisions or attitudes (1 Corinthians 3:1–3 “And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” ).
Spirituality without holiness becomes emotionalism — people chasing experiences but lacking transformation.
Holiness without spirituality becomes legalism — people keeping rules but missing relationship.
