We are Entrusted With Responsibility
We are Entrusted With Responsibility
a.
Possibly talk about growing up with my family’s business, and I was entrusted to be responsible with the task given.
The text we face with today in Luke 19:11-27, talks about a responsibility entrusted to the people apart of this story, and that same responsibility is entrusted to us today.
We see in the previous chapter that Jesus is traveling from Jericho to Jerusalem. The disciples and crowds of people are following him listening to his teachings, seeing his miracles, on their way to Jerusalem. They were expecting Jesus to establish his full reign and power which would overthrow all the evil forces and overthrow the Roman government.
This was a misunderstanding, and so Jesus used this as a teaching moment to address this expectation that people were expressing.
**Read Text Luke 19:11-13**
We read right away, that Jesus is telling this story in a parable, which tells us that there is going to be some kind of symbolism involved with this story. The nobleman or king in this story, and in verse 12 he says that the king will first leave the country to be crowned king, but before this time. The king gathered the servants and gave them all ten minas, which were three months worth of wages, and tells them to put this money to work. The king was telling them to be active in what they were given, to engage in trade, invest in their money, and to use their money to make a profit.
This reminds me of the times when I would be home alone with my siblings, and my parents would leave and they would give like a combined $40 for the night, whether it was for dinner or a dessert. My parents would leave, and they would give us the responsibility to make good of the resource while they were away.
A three months wages was not a lot of money, so there could be uncertainty of whether or not they should keep the money or be faithful and obedient to what they were directed to do.
Jesus is drawing the illustration for us today, that we are the servants in the story. We are living in a time right now, where Jesus has already died and rose again, and has left this earth to be crowned King, and we are unsure of when Jesus is coming back, but we know that He will, because he has promised.
