Few facts

Spirit is a He not an IT
understood to be the Spirit of Christ
Submit to the Fathers will
Not anything less of The Father or the Son. They are co-equal in power and glory
It was the Spirit of God that hovered over the water and darkness in the beginning (eterna)
Eastern Orthodox often held that the Spirit proceeds only from the Father, to emphasise the role of the Father as the cause of all things, and to underliine the distincitivenessof the Holy Spirit’s person and role within the Godhead.
2 Corinthians 3:17–18 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.”
He is Lord
John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.”
John 15:26 “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf.”
Free and powerful - often times scripture makes the Spirit known by such manifestations as wind, fire or even a dove. In those instances, we see a powerful yet invisiblle source, make impact with creation. like in Acts 8:39 “When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing.”
we cannot contain the Spirit, nor does it bend to our will - It’s actually quite the opposite.
He is the giver of life
In creation Job 33:4 “The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” and still remains active in the world
Psalm 104:29 “When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.”
Romans 8:18-25
In re-creation - The Holy Spirit is the agent of re-creation and transformation for God’s people throughout the entire story of the Bible. We see this work in its fullest expression through the life of Jesus: beginning with His miraculous birth by the Spirit, continuing through His ministry—marked by power and miracles and symbolized by the Spirit descending on uHim like a dove—and extending through His death and resurrection. This ongoing, powerful work is further detailed in the story of the Early Church, which we read about in the Book of Acts.
Or HBoD says that the holy spirit is always contemporary. He is God acting for us today, giving us confidence in the Christian mission and enabling us to look forward with hope to the ultimate fulfillment of God’s purpose. By pointing back to the work of Christ for us, he points ever forward to the father’s ultimate creative purpose of United all things in him
Ephesians 1:13–14 “In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to the praise of his glory.”

Sanctifier

It is the Holy Spirit that guides believers toward righteouesness (right living) and a deeper relationship with God. It is the Holy Spirit that lead us to the saving knowledge of Jesus. If we know that God is holy, and cannot be around anything unholy, we immediately see a problem with us. So it begs the question, how then do we have fellowship with the Father?
The Process
Prevenient grace - Jesus makes a bold claim in John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me; and I will raise that person up on the last day.”
What does He mean by that? That we don’ do the choosing, God does. When the ancient Jews heard this, they were under the impression that they were chosen by virtual of teir physical and natural birth. They were wrong. It is the Father that draws us to Him through the Holy Spirit. This is what we call prevenient grace, the grace that comes before. God prepares and helps the heart of every soul hearing, to seek him and find salvation. Even throughout OT, you see it is God gaining the attention of men and women. not the other way around
2. Saving knowledge - As we are continuing to be drawn to God, recognizing our sin and feeling guilt, God offers salvation. If you have a story of salvation, I probably goes a little something like this; I once was this.… chasing after that.… I realized that was wrong.....How did you realize it? Jesus sais in John 16:8 “And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment:” So it is the Holy Spirit that convicts ad brings attention to our sin so that we may, which is part of the next part of your story, REPENT. To come to realizing you sinned against God and needs forgiveness
3. Growth in grace - It doesn’t just stop there. HS job isn’t done. From then on He continues to work in our lives leading us and guiding us (I will talk about that later) until completion.
Galatians 5:22–23 “By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.”
talks about the fruit of the spirit. on the contrary, there are works of the flesh; the behaviors and ways that we have come to know to live by that also rules over our bodies. these are the things that places us at odds with God because sin seperates us.
Breakdown: we naturally desire flesh
Ephesians 1:13–14 “In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to the praise of his glory.”
Holy Spirit is the seal that we belong to The Father and saved by Jesus

The Comforter

He is our comforter. Scripture says therefore, there is no condemnation for anyone who beleives and follow Jesus. No amount of sin can seperate us form His love. At the same time, we often have diffculty beleiving that and beleiving the lies from the enemey. H

The Guide

Holy Spirit isn’t just the initaitor, He is also the one whom which continues to guide us in this life towards completion. Throughout the OT, The Spirit would come and go as he pleases. King David, recognizing this, often prayed that the Spirit wouldnt
Evidence: The Disciples
If there is any areas of joy that we can find in Holy Spirit’s guidance, look no futher than Jesus’ Disciples. 43 days before pentacost, these guys were a mess. scattered like sheep, denying being associated with Jesus, denying Jesus’ ressurection… but then they recieved the power of the Holy Spirit and look what
Speaking foreign languages - Acts 2:4 “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.”
Boldly preaching Acts 4:31 “When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.”
Mass conversions Acts 2:41 “So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added.”
Healing the sick Acts 3:6–7 “But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk.” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong.”
It is these reasons why Jesus told the Disicples that it is better that He leave so that the Holy Spirit would come (John 16:7). Jesus, being full man, is limited to time and space. But the Spirit isn’t
Galatians 5:22–23 “By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.”

grieved by our sin
fights over our efforts of sin (has feelings)
the helper

Holy Spirit fulfills and sustains the work God began in us. works in the doing
Holy Spirit is heavily involved in the work of Jesus. From descending like a dove, to the works and wisdom to the ressurection. The Spirit reveals Christ. uses the power to reveal God
Holy spirit draws us to the father and convicts us of our sin
New heart and new spirit = holy spirit. the spirit ocnvits us of our need for healing. prior to Jesus, the Spirit would come and Go ( look at David’s prayers)
we will cotinue in rebellion unless God’s Spirit, Holy Spirit, convicts us and draws us to repentance.
