Joseph is patient

Opening

Good morning everyone

Hope y’alls morning is going good so far

so if you brought your bible or have it on your phone we will be in gen 40

We are going to be going through a time in Josephs life when he was having to be patient

walk through the story with them

So first thing that happens to Joseph in this chapter is

He is in prison

and so is the Kings cupbearer and baker

They both had a dream that they couldn’t understand

Joseph said Don’t interpretations belong to God?

Joseph pointed them straight to God at the start

Then the two start telling Joseph their dream

First was the cupbearer

his dream was

A vine

three branches

The branches filled with grapes

he then squeezed the grapes in Pharaoh’s cup

and gave the cup back to pharaoh

Joseph told him his dream

Which was basically

in three days you will back to being the cupbearer

But Joseph said Please show kindness to me by mentioning me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison

Bakers dream

Three baskets of white bread on my head

all sorts of baked goods on Pharaoh’s head

birds were eating them out of the basket on my head

Joseph told him his dream

Basically the king will kill you

the birds will eat your skin after you die

pretty gross

Then into ch 41

The cupbearer remembers Joseph because pharaoh has a dream needing to be told

But notice it says it’s been 2 years since the last time we read about Joseph

Josephs patients/Trusting the Lord’s timing

What i want to talk about today is Jospeh’s patients and trust

see several years prior to this happening part of Josephs story was the Lord giving him a dream about ruling over his brothers

and since those dreams life has not been going his way

but this moment looked like the big break for him

he’s able to interpret the dream with the Lord’s help

hopefully the cup bearer will remember

But it takes 2 years for it to happen

Joseph shows so much patients here

he made the interpretation and three days later it happened

so maybe by the end of the week he’d be out

but no he had to wait for 2 years

then he finally got his chance

but notice his trust in the Lord and it never failing

once he gets the chance he tells pharaoh in 41:16 I am not able to but it is God who can

after years of waiting and almost being where he dreamed of many years ago

almost being in a position of leadership and then being taken down

seeming as the Lord lied about what he’d do for Joseph

He never lost trust in the Lord

so for today what I want you to get from this story is

When things seem impossible

nothing is going your way

idk where the Lord wants me to go

idk what the Lord wants me to do

everything is out of control

today was going good but now it’s not

Remember the Lord is in control and he is a promise keeper

He’ll never lead you astray

and he always has a plan

and constantly give God the praise he deserves Joseph has two different scenerios of being able to take the glory

with the cupberer and the baker

and pharaoh

But he always gave the glory to the Lord so today and throughout life

have a peace that the Lord is in control

and he’s got a plan

and always give him the glory
