V 3 Accomplished Cleansing for Sins
We need to stop right here to get some background before we go the the next phrase
V 3 Sat Down
We have to go back to Leviticus 10 to see what was the cleansing of sin was
What the hight priest had to do once a year to atone for the sins of Israel
Atonement - To cleanse
To cover over or coat
To appease
Lev 10
Nadab and Abihu worshipped improperly
there was strange fire in their incense burners
I believe they were very sincere in what they thought was the way to God
but instead they deviated just a little and God struck them down with a lightning bolt
They worshipped but in a unholy way
after this the priests had a whole new prospective on how their duties are to be done
God for the next few chapters told the people what was clean and what was not
All these unclean Items and people are sinful to God
then in chapter 16
God gives instructions to the high priest on how he is to come into the presence of God in the Holies of Holies

Yom Kippur / Day of Atonement

4 times in this chapter someone has to wash their clothes and their body so they dont defile the camp or the Holy of Holies
sin and burnt offerings were done to make atonement for sin
Make a cleansing for sins
Go through 16
V 34 every year make a cleansing

Jesus Sat

Hebrews 1:3 LSB
who is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power; who, having accomplished cleansing for sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Speaking to the Hebrews they knew all about Yom Kippur because they were involved every year
it is done different today because there is no temple
and that pesky ripping of the veil that happened when Jesus was crucified
that would let just anybody in because Jesus fulfilled the law
and all who have been adopted into the family of God can come boldly before the throne of God at ant time
because all of their sins have been forgiven
they are now cleansed by the blood of the lamb
So, getting back to Jesus sitting.
why did we have to go to Leviticus?
Jesus work is complete it is finished
this is what David said would happen 1000s years ago
Psalm 110:1 LSB
Yahweh says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand Until I put Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.”
Mark 16:19 LSB
So then, the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.
The son has received the Glory that He had before he became man
Hebrews 10:12 LSB
but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God,
one sacrifice for all time
the wretchedness of our sin has been atoned for
we don’t have to rely on the high priest to do everything correctly
we have the Great Hight Priest Jesus who sits at the right hand of The Father
who intercedes on out behalf to the Father
reminding Him that Jesus paid the price
that our sins were put onto the scapegoat and taken where they will never return
