Intro:
A Girl’s Dream List
Ladies, I have some good news for you
Just because there is only one verse doesn’t mean that there are less requirements for men
In fact, The word “Likewise” isn’t a transition word
It is an inclusive word that ties in with all the rest of this section
Some of you ladies were probably thinking you wanted to have a word with Peter when you got to heaven
Peter is hitting on the issue of submission by telling us to submit to government, bosses, as wive, and now he is telling Husbands to submit to their wives
Bet you didn’t see that coming
Not only that he tells husbands to submit to their wives but then proceeds to add more to it

Living Sacrifice vs. 7a

The first aspect of a Godly husband is that he lives like a living sacrifice
Men need to submit to Jesus, the government, their boss, AND to their wives
Salvation: Needs to bend a knee and acknowledge Jesus
Sanctification: Need to be growing in his relationship with Jesus
How do they submit? The become a living sacrifice
They lay down their lives for their wife and family
Romans 12:1 ESV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Submission is played out by sacrificing their time, resources, and devotion
Submission is shown by putting your family first
It’s sacrificing your time by doing what is in the best interests of those God gave you to protect and provide for
Ephesians 5:25 ESV
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
Sacrifice isn’t giving all of your time to your wife, its doing what is best for her
Sacrifice isn’t dressing alike and doing the death walk through Costco, It’s investing in her and providing a safe place
It’s giving up whatever is necessary to ensure the success of your family
1 John 3:16 ESV
By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
Disclaimer: Ladies, you are not your husbands Holy Spirit
It will go much better when he follows the Lord’s leading as opposed to your guidance

Dwell w/ Understanding vs. 7b

The second aspect of a Godly husband is that they dwell with understanding
Dwell means to abide and make a life with
At this time husbands were non-existant.
They would work, then spend their time at the temples or local bath houses
Wives would be left alone all the time
Peter telling the men to spend time with their wives was radical
Maybe some of you women are thinking the same thing
There is more to this than just spending time
It also meant that the man was to only give himself to his wife intimately
The word “Understanding” is used throughout the bible in reference to sexual intercourse
Genesis 4:1 ESV
Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain,
A Husband should dwell with his wife and know her well
Marriage was broken then and now
Back then the Husband was never home
He went to city gate, temple, and bath house
Adultery and promiscuity were rampant and accepted
They were neglecting their wives
To call a man to be faithful to only one woman was bordering on outrageous
Today men are home but they are checked out
Engrossed in video-games, or projects, or hobbies
They are neglecting their wives
1 Corinthians 7:3 ESV
The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband.
Sex is so broken in our culture
I will say this, “Ladies, you need to let your husband get to know you.”
Husbands, you are made to pleasure your wife
She is not the object to satisfy your needs and desires
Ladies, it is not your husbands job to get you in the mood
It is said men connect physically and women connect emotionally
Your husband is the least qualified to do that
He is not wired that way
Your telling me that you’re expecting the emotional orge laying next you to say or do something to connect at that moment
No, you need to get into the mood, quickly
Intimacy is something that should get better with time
Anyone who says it gets boring doesn’t know their spouse

Show Honor vs. 7c

The third aspect of of a godly husband is that they show honor to their wives
When my girls we young I told them that any man who wanted to date them had to do three things
1. They have to love Jesus more than them
2. They have to treat you well around their friends
3. They have to enjoy and want to be around our family
Two of those three are about showing honor
We call it treating them right
Too many men dishonor their wives
They do it on front of their children or in public
Many men are passive aggressive and take their frustrations out on their wives by making them look bad in front of other people
Some me stoop so low to make their wives look stupid, like their embarassed of them
We are to show them honor because they are the weaker vessel
A century ago this wasn’t an issue
Nowadays, people are convinced that women are just as strong as a man
This shows you how upside down we have become
Husbands, your wife deserves nothing less than you most intimate care, concern, love, and honor
Your job to is to be watchful and protect

You Are Spiritual Equals vs. 7d

The fourth aspect of a Godly heart is that he looks at his wife as a spiritual equal
So much is made of submission and order that we forget that husbands and wives are spiritual equals
Honestly, most men would admit that their wives are more spiritually mature
But we are equals
Galatians 3:28 ESV
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
We are all going to inherit the same thing when we stand before Jesus
Husbands, treat your wife as a spiritual equal

Unhinder Your Prayers vs. 7e

The final aspect of a Godly Husband is that he realizes not doing this hinders his prayers
Neglecting and dishonoring your wife has some serious repercussions
