Let’s play - True or False!
-Kid sits in a chair
-I describe them
-I ask True or False? — Yell answer
How did you guys feel being Falsely described?
-Let’s play again but this time for Jesus:
Jesus:
-Created everything
-Came to earth a long time ago
-Lived a perfect life without doing anything wrong ever
-Had the authority to stop storms, heal people, bring dead people back to life, and even tell people that their sin was ultimately forgiven
-Died on the cross but was raised from the dead!
-Loves you more than your mom or dad love you, more than you can even love yourself
-True or False?
Today we are going to talk about a very important fact, one we MUST get right if we really want to know who Jesus is… And if we get it wrong, we don’t know who God is!
-Jesus is fully God and fully Man
——————————————————————————————————————————
[Introduction]
My name is Matt..
[Introduce Text]
Today we will talk about the most amazing miracle of all history
-More than parting the Red Sea
-More than a blind man seeing for the first time
-More than a miraculous healing from cancer
The greatest miracle of all history is the Incarnation of God the Son
“What in-carnation are you talkin bout??”
-Incarnation: The miracle of God the Son becoming fully man without ceasing to be fully God
-Incarnation: “Remaining what he was, he became what he was not.” - Systematic Theology, Wayne Grudem

[PRAY]
—————————————————————————————————————-
-Today we will discuss:
>>Why the incarnation matters —> Who should we be thinking of when we read anything about Jesus in the Bible
Example - “Today I’m having lunch with the president.”
-President of the chess team?
-President of a large company?
-President of the United States?
There is a popular fallacy today - We’re all on team Jesus
- “Hey man as long as we’re all on team Jesus, we’re groovy!”
-The context of “Jesus” changes the context of Scripture
-When we identify Jesus rightly in the Bible, it helps us understand the Bible
As we conclude the Prologue, we understand who Jesus is to help us understand amazing accounts in John’s gospel and the Bible
>>Dive into versus 14-18
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.
11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’ ”) 16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.
17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.

Question 21 - What sort of Redeemer is needed to bring us back to God?
Answer: One who is truly human and also truly God.
Scripture:
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Question 22 - Why must the Redeemer be truly human?
That in human nature he might on our behalf perfectly obey the whole law and suffer the punishment for human sin; and also that he might sympathize with our weaknesses.
Question 22 - Why must the Redeemer be truly human?
-Represents us completely
-Satisfies the whole law perfectly
-Pays a price justly for you
>>Not Monopoly Money… Your death was deserved, Jesus died that for you
-God actually sympathizes with us and our weakness
Scripture:
17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
Question 23 - Why must the Redeemer be truly God?
Answer: That because of his divine nature his obedience and suffering would be perfect and effective; and also that he would be able to bear the righteous anger of God against sin and yet overcome death.
Scripture:
24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.

What are the Repercussions of believing wrongly about who Jesus is? AKA “What’s the big deal...”
>>Imagine that you're at a coffee shop with a friend, and I walk in...
-You introduce me to your friend
-They’re going to your house for a ladies event this next week and you invited Courtney
-I say “Wow that’s amazing, her name is Courtney....”
Tall Southern Gal
-Long dark Hair
-Southern Drawl
-Likes to wear cowboy hats
-Glasses
>>STOP… Two questions:
What would you be thinking while I talk that whole time?
Matt… Who is this woman because that is NOT Courtney
You got the name right… But that’s about it
What would your friend be thinking?
Huh seems like a nice gal… Yee Haw

Repercussions
You cannot represent God
-“Christians” (aka little Christs) yet don’t know who Jesus is, than how can we represent him and be ambassadors for him to a world that doesn’t know him
-How will people know who Jesus is? Through his church, his people, being sent out to represent him and invite others to know and submit to him
9 ...because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent?
As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Repercussions
You cannot represent God
You cannot follow God
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.
False Religions - Why do people deny this?
-People desire for God to be like them
-People desire to be like God
-People want to save themselves
Repercussions
You cannot represent God
You cannot follow God
You cannot enjoy God
If Jesus was not fully God...
-Then we have sacrificed another bull, we don’t have a sacrifice for all future sins
11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
15 And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,
16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,”
17 then he adds,
“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”
18 Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
We enjoy God because he has fully borne our sins

[Gospel]
Every Christmas, I pull out a document with scripture that tells the full Christmas story
7 “Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 8 As I live, declares the Lord God, surely because my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd,
and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep, 9 therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord:
10 Thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require my sheep at their hand and put a stop to their feeding the sheep. No longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them.
11 “For thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness.
22 I will rescue my flock; they shall no longer be a prey. And I will judge between sheep and sheep. 23 And I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd.
24 And I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them. I am the Lord; I have spoken.
-Our God is NOT a passive God
-You and I have sinned against God
-We cannot save ourselves, we are hopeless - Our debt was God sized
-But God HIMSELF was born a man, Fully God, Fully Man to rescue and redeem us
Go OFF
-As we read John, would we see the very glory and character of God and be changed forever by it
If you want to know the God of the Universe, look no further than Jesus, the Son of God

1 Corinthians 11:23–26 (ESV)
23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
