Baptism-The Power of Resurrection
Baptism-The Power of Resurrection
Everyone lives in a place in time.
Everyone lives in a place in time.
Kronos- is linear time
Past
Present
Future
True living is
not the sum of the time
the impact upon the time we have
No one person had a greater impact on time than our Lord Jesus Christ.
No one person had a greater impact on time than our Lord Jesus Christ.
He show us that
Our time is limited
Life was not.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
You can have full life in limited time.
You can have full life in limited time.
Ordinances of the Church
The Lord’s Supper
Water Baptism
What makes these observances so important to the Christian Church?
What makes these observances so important to the Christian Church?
Why observe them?
What so they mean?
The two ordinances are snapshots of the life journey of Christ.
The two ordinances are snapshots of the life journey of Christ.
The Lords Supper remembers his ultimate humanity
Suffering
Death
Baptism solidifies his divinity
Miracles
Resurrection
We are all somewhere between the lines
Humanity and divinity
Flesh and Spirit
Consistent choices move us
Closer to the flesh
Closer to life in the Spirit
Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
Paul realized that all of his accomplishments were impressive when compared to others.
His accomplishments did not lead to living
His accomplishments did not lead to living
But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
Paul was not looking for earthly
Popularity
Power
Position
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Jesus demonstrated that there was more to life.
Jesus demonstrated that there was more to life.
The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
There are things that do nothing of significance.
God cares for them
God make them shine
God has called us to his glory
God has called us to his glory
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God wants to move us on the lifeline
From barren to fruitful
From lost to found
From death to life
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Paul saw something more valuable than
Stuff
Success
Security
That I may win Christ.
That I may win Christ.
Ordinances help us to
Perceive right
Pursue right
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
It take time to move

Faith Position
Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way. I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. Let not then your good be evil spoken of:
A legal positions says accept me
I have done whats right
I have obeyed you
I deserve it
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
A faith position I am yours
Imperfect
Undeserving
Yet accepted
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
We will never rise up until we fall down.
We will never rise up until we fall down.
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
The Lord’s supper is a memorial that recognizes his suffering and death for us.
Paul wanted to know more.
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
Paul wanted to know
Him
The power of the resurrection
Resurrection power
New Life
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Resurrection power
New Life
New purpose
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Baptism
Identifies a new relationship
Identifies a new fellowship
Invites a new spirit
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Baptism
Sin is remitted
Spirit is received
A new life is embraced
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
