Anthropology Lesson 2: Man in God’s Image

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
God created man
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
God created everything that is, only God is not created.
God created from his word
Genesis 1:3 “And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.”
Genesis 1:4 “And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.”
Man was created from the dust of the ground
Genesis 2:7 “then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”
Go over the layout of Genesis, from broad to more specific.
Ask who has ever heard of Michelangelo.
Not the Ninja turtle, Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo
Carved the statue of David from Marble, sort of like dust.
That statue is not going to come to life, no matter who has or will breath on it
Woman was created from man. Look up Genesis 2:21–22 “So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.”
God made man and woman different that everything else. God put his breath in him and man and every other person after Adam has an eternal soul
This is the image of God not physical appearance.
We are unique in that we will exist from when we are conceived and then for all eternity, either in heaven or in Hell.
All of mankind, every man and woman who has ever lived and will ever live were created in the image of God and we should respect one another and love one another enough to share the Gospel with them.
God created Man and Woman
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
If you make something you own it
If you make a model of a building out of popsicle sticks you can do what you want with it. You can put it on a shelf, or you can use it as a prop for Godzilla to destroy.
God made us and as our creator has ownership over us to determine if we are man or woman.
We cannot change these things.
There are some things we can change about ourselves, hair style, what we wear, what we do for a living. But being created male and female is not one of those things.
Can I make up my mind and now say I am a Giraffe?
We may pretend that we are an animal or another person but that does not change who we really are.
Isaiah 45:9 ““Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?”
Isaiah 29:16 “You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay, that the thing made should say of its maker, “He did not make me”; or the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?”
Romans 9:20 “But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?””
God is perfect
God does not and cannot sin, and God does not make mistakes.
Psalm 18:30 “This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”
Deuteronomy 32:4 ““The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.”
The way God made each and everyone of us is on purpose and for God’s plan and according to his will.
All of us are created in God’s image, with an eternal soul. But we are also all sinners because of Adam’s sin. So we need a savior who can pay our debt, our penalty for our sin so we can be spotless and covered with the righteousness of Jesus when we are before God.
