Introduction
Hello, this is Kenneth, and welcome to Dwell.
Thanks for joining us for today's Dwell Kids Daily.
For the next few minutes, I invite you to join me as we look to our Great King by opening our hearts to hear from Him through the words of the Bible.
Silence
As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to calm and quiet our minds, so that we can hear him better.
Opening Prayer
Father, we rejoice that you have given us a new day to worship you. Today, give us a new song in our heart – a song of praise.
Passage
Today our passage is from the gospel according to Matthew, chapter 11, verse 28 (ESV):
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Exhortation
Ok, this beautiful verse from Matthew is the the first of four verses some Christians call The Comfortable Words. Typically these four passages come right after you have prayed a prayer of confession and repentance. So, why don’t we start there too. Pray with me as I pray a prayer of confession.
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Ok, in light of our confession of sin and humble repentance, let’s here from out kind Savior, Jesus. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Wow, can you sense Jesus’ love for you in this passage? Maybe you are worried that because of your sin Jesus won’t love you, or want to be near you? Well, Jesus says to you, put that worry down, put that heavy burden down and come to him. Know this, Jesus knows that you and I are sinners, he knows it better than we do, but because he loves you, because he doesn’t want you weighed down by the weight of sin, he says come dear one, come to me, sinner, and I will take that burden from you and give you rest.
Isn’t that beautiful? Isn’t that wonderful? Our sin does separate us from God, but when we confess our sins and turn away from them – we are turning to the loving restful arms of Jesus, our Savior and King.
Call to Action
Let’s take a moment to consider the comfort these word of the saving King bring us.
Closing Prayer
Let’s pray together.
Father, you know that we fall short, that we sin, that we have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. Thank you for sending your saving Son. His open arms give us rest from this wary world. Father, in the name of King Jesus, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Outro
Now, go in peace, and let the word of King Jesus dwell in you richly.
