Restoration thinking of an old car model A or furniture
I found an old organ that was kind of beat up but I’d like the style of it and I thought What if I can restore that and to be able to create a desk .
Old organ
Took it apart and sanded it and painted it
Put it back together
Something new and useful
When we help restore others they will hopefully be better than before and more useful for the kingdom of God
Read Galatians 6:1-10
Galatians 6:1–10 NKJV
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For each one shall bear his own load. Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Gently Help Each Other (Verse 1)
Galatians 6:1 NKJV
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.
When a friend makes a mistake or chooses wrong, those who love God should kindly help them get back on the right path.
If a man is overtaken in any trespass: Paul recognized that there may be those among the Christians in Galatia who had been overtaken in a trespass.
Paul didn’t seem to exclude the overtaken one from the brethren, yet they should never stay in the place of being overtaken.
Paul’s wording here speaks not of a determined and hardened sinner.
Instead, the idea is of someone who has fallen into sin, finding themselves trapped in a place they never thought they would be.
Overtaken “Contains the idea of falling. It is not the deliberate, the planned, aspect of sin that is stressed here, but rather the unwitting element.
We should be careful ourselves not to make the same mistakes.
Carrying each other's burdens means helping friends when life gets hard.
Ultimately you cannot restore someone else, that is the Lord’s job.
So if we see someone who needs to be restored our job is to redirect them back to God, the One who is able to restore.
We can redirect them back to God by…
Living a genuine faith in front of them
Matthew 5:16 NKJV
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Bringing them to the Word
2 Timothy 3:16–17 NKJV
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Pray for and with them
James 5:16 NKJV
Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
This job of restoration is often neglected in the church. We have a tendency to either pretend the sin never happened, or we tend to react too harshly towards the one who has sinned. The balance between these two extremes can only be negotiated by the spiritual. It should be normal to do what God says here, but it isn’t. It is all too easy to respond to someone’s sin with gossip, harsh judgment, or undiscerning approval.
Application: Be a Helper: If you see a friend struggling or making bad choices, don’t ignore it. Talk to them kindly, maybe pray with them, help them make better choices.
Bear Each other’s Burdens (vv. 2-3)
Galatians 6:2–3 NKJV
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
Bear one another’s burdens: When Paul brought up the idea of the one overtaken in any trespass, it painted the picture of a person sagging under a heavy load.
Here he expanded the idea to encourage every Christian to bear one another’s burdens.
The focus isn’t on “expect others to bear your burdens.” That is self-focused
God always directs us to be others-focused, and says, “Bear one another’s burdens.”
Look at Your Own Life (Verses 3-5)
Galatians 6:3–5 NKJV
For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For each one shall bear his own load.
Don’t think you’re better than others. Who are you trying to impress? Whose attention are you seeking?
If anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself:
Pride prevents us from bearing one another’s burdens and fulfilling the law of Christ which is to love one another.
It is often pride that keeps us from ministering to one another as we should.
Pride is self-focus. Pride doesn’t necessarily say, “I’m better than you are.” Pride simply says, “I’m more important than you are, so I deserve more of my own attention and love than you do.”
Instead, Biblical humility tells us, “I am no more important than you are. Let me care about your burdens and needs.”
Philippians 2:3–4 NET
Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well.
Application: Are you doing your best to follow Jesus?
Sow Good Seeds, Reap Good Harvest (Verses 7-8)
Galatians 6:7–8 NKJV
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
What you do matters—you will harvest from what you plant.
Galatian 5 - the fleshly list or the fruits of the spirit.
Did you ever think about why many know the fruits of the spirit and not the list of the flesh, we should know the good not the bad.
Galatians 5:22 NASB95
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
If you live only to please yourself and do wrong, that leads to trouble.
Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart:
Sowing seeds of God’s love/mercy/grace
Every one of you is an influencer you have the ability to influence others even when you think you’re not . I know of a high school young man who has seen couple of his friends come to know the Lord recently and these friendships have been over years but it’s because of the constant love mercy and Grace that this should have been shown these kids have come to know Jesus as Lord and savior .
As we wisely manage our resources before God under the principle of sowing and reaping, we need patience. This is because the harvest does not come immediately after the seeds are sown.
Application: Choose Your Actions Wisely: Remember, what you do now affects your future. Plant seeds of kindness, honesty, and love.
Don’t Get Tired of Doing Good (Verses 9-10)
Keep doing good things, even when it feels hard. At the right time, good things will come back to you. Always look for chances to help everyone, especially other believers.
As we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith:
Not losing heart, we seek to do good with our resources, and to do good to all — but especially to those who are of God’s family.
