Not many of us are naturally wise.

We may think we are but wisdom is not, at least Scripturally, something humans naturally have a lot of.

Wisdom is not the same as knowledge & education.

Wisdom can be gained by knowledge and education certainly but just because someone has the “right” degrees in a field does not mean they are wise either. Wisdom is not tied to our IQ, EQ (Emotional Intelligence), or RQ (relational intelligence).

Wisdom helps know “how” to work out our knowledge.

This is to some extent my definition of wisdom. Wisdom is more concerned with how to do something than just what needs to be done.

The Gospel reminds us of God’s wisdom.

Only God would see that saving us by the power of His death and resurrection in Jesus would bring us together. Paul is reminding us that wisdom may not always look like what others would want.

Scripture points to the Gospel—always.

The Old Testament finds its fulfillment and climax in Jesus. Revelation and our future glory is only possible when seen in the shadow of the Cross.

We need to learn to obey God’s wisdom.

The Gospel doesn’t save us so we can become a “better” version of ourselves. We are saved to obey Christ and become like him. Not gaining “divinity” or “god status” but to live and act as he would.

God alone is wise.

When we are reminded of this we can seek wisdom.
