Welcome people, call people to sit in the middle in the first five rows.
Brief announcements, have worship team already on stage. They open with “Open The Eyes of My Heart Lord” and then they sit down after song.
I go up to the front, not at the pulpit. Have podium and headset. Open in a prayer for God to speak to us, and for us to listen.
Tonight is a night of prayer and Scripture. Prayer is our most valuable opportunity to talk to God and for God to talk to us. We as a church need to be in the habit of praying as a community together. Scripture earnestly speaks to us to seek the Lord together. Jesus Himself teaches us the importance of us doing this.
Matthew 18:19–20 “19 Again, truly I tell you, if two of you on earth agree about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.””
Tonight, we are going to pray for five areas; the Pastor Search Committee, our unity, our mission, our individual self, and each other. We will break these down into four different prayer movements. However, there may be things that you feel led to pray about during these moments, and I would encourage you to pray for those things. You are welcome to come to the altar at any point during our time and pray.
The first thing that we are going to pray for tonight is our Pastor Search Committee. They have been meeting and praying for the man that God would have lead the church. Their job has not been easy and they have had their snags, but they are doing what God has called them to do. So I am going to ask you to spend the next several minutes praying for each of the members of the Pastor Search Committee. The members are Jeff, Libby, Doug, Sarah, and Hank. Let’s enter a time of prayer for this committee. i want to invite you to pray for their endurance. Pray for their families, and pray that God will lead them to the man who God has for this church. Pray that God would bless their efforts. Pray that they would have peace in this time. And while we pray, let’s pray also for the man that God would have for this church. Let’s pray for our pastor search committee.
Prayer - Song “Peace”
In John, Jesus spends time praying for various things, and before He is betrayed, arrested, beaten, and put to death, Jesus prays a specific prayer for all who believe in Him. This is what it says in
John 17:20–26 “20 “I pray not only for these, but also for those who believe in me through their word. 21 May they all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us, so that the world may believe you sent me. 22 I have given them the glory you have given me, so that they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me, so that they may be made completely one, that the world may know you have sent me and have loved them as you have loved me. 24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they will see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the world’s foundation. 25 Righteous Father, the world has not known you. However, I have known you, and they have known that you sent me. 26 I made your name known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love you have loved me with may be in them and I may be in them.””
One of the biggest threats to any church is for disunity to come into the church. We need to pray for unity in our church. This community needs to see our church united for the kingdom. Over these next few minutes, I’m going to ask you to join me in prayer for there to be unity in our church. That we come together and hold onto one another. That we pray for each other and seek to build each other up. Let’s spend time praying for unity in our church.
Prayer - “Highs and Lows”
Matthew 9:37–38 “37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.””
We as a church are called to be a light in the community. We need to be reaching our area. People no longer just show up at church, we have to go out in our community. The need is greater than it has ever been. Over the next few moments, I want you to pray, asking God who can we be a light in this community. Pray that God would give us a heart for this community, not just so that we would grow, but so that people in our community come to know Jesus as their savior. Pray that we as a church will reach out to our community in ways that will reach young families, and those who need to experience the love of Christ. Pray for what God would have you to do to be a part of us reaching this community. Let’s pray for our mission.
Prayer - “Fight My Battles”
For our next prayer movement we are going to pray for our self. Listen to what Peter wrote in 1 Peter.
1 Peter 5:6–9 “6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time, 7 casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you. 8 Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. 9 Resist him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.”
So many of us have so much going on in our lives, in our families lives. Good things and bad things. So we are going to spend the next few moments in prayer for God to guide and lead us individually. You may need to pray for something that you’ve put off bringing to this Lord. Let’s pray
Prayer - “Song of Ascent”
We are going to close out our prayer time praying for each other. James 5 says this:
James 5:16 “16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.”
You and I are called to pray for each other. So that is what we are going to do. I want you to grab someone either next to you in the pew or in the row behind and pray for each other. Pray for thier week. Pray for their health. If you don’t know what to pray for, ask them. If you need someone to come with you and pray at the altar, grab them and go. You can pray with your husband, your wife, whoever. Let’s pray for each other.
Prayer - “Waiting Here For You”
After, gather everyone back to the middle, invite the Worship Team to come up and we sing “God is so good.”
