Thank You

Good morning, and on behalf of the family I would like to thank you for being here today as we celebrate the life of Lynn Shue
In moments like this, when we wrestle with loss and search for words of comfort, our presence often says more than anything we could speak
You being here today brings this family more comfort than any words could, so again, thank you.

SCRIPTURE

As I prepared for today, I was overwhelmed by the honor of speaking about someone I’ve known for as long as I can remember and by the challenge of honoring the Lynn that his family, friends, and church all knew in just a few minutes
But the Lord reminded me of a verse, one often read at moments like this:
Psalm 116:15 CSB
The death of his faithful ones is valuable in the Lord’s sight.
November 5th, 2025, the day Lynn passed away, was a valuable day in the eyes of the Lord because that was the day He brought one of His faithful ones home
Lynn was faithful in so many ways:
Faithful to his country, serving in the U.S. Army.
Faithful to his community, through years on the school board and as county commissioner.
Faithful to his church, loving and serving God’s people.
Faithful to his family—a devoted father to Ashley and Avery, a proud grandfather, a loyal brother.
And faithful to his bride of 50 years, Patty.
One of my last visits with Lynn showed that love so clearly
A nurse asked who I was, he knew immediately
Then she pointed to Patty and asked who she was, and his face changed
He said, “Oh, that’s Patty, my wife. We’ve been married 50 years.”
Fifty years later, still full of love….What a testament to his faithfulness
But more important than his faithfulness to his country, community, or family, Lynn was faithful to Jesus
He understood the gospel: that he was a sinner in need of a Savior, and that Savior was Jesus Christ
He trusted in the One who was perfectly faithful
Lynn knew that his own faithfulness, no matter how genuine, would always fall short of God’s perfect standard
But he also knew that Jesus never failed, that Christ’s righteousness covered his sin, and that his eternal hope rested not in what he had done, but in what Christ had already accomplished

CLOSING

So today, as we celebrate Lynn’s life, we don’t do so as those who grieve without hope
We celebrate because the same Jesus who was faithful to Lynn in life and death is faithful to us today
He is the reason we can have comfort, peace, and even joy in the midst of loss
And while we thank God for Lynn’s faithfulness, we worship the Faithful One
the One who keeps every promise, who conquered death, and who has now welcomed Lynn, one of His faithful ones, home
