Habakkuk 1:1-11
Friend’s dad died of COVID
Transition: Sometimes it’s natural for us to ask the question Habakkuk asks:

1. Where is God when people are suffering?

Habakkuk asked God why he wasn’t paying attention to Habakkuk’s cries of injustice (Habakkuk 1:1-2)
Even worse, Habakkuk thinks God sees the injustice, but that he isn’t doing anything about it (Habakkuk 1:3)
In Judah, the wicked overpowered the righteous, which led to violence and injustice (Habakkuk 1:3-4)
We have issues on a societal level
We have issues on a personal level
Where is God?

2. God’s plan to fix the injustice in Judah was too big for Habakkuk to comprehend (develop inductively)

God opens Habakkuk’s eyes just a little bit, to see what God is doing to fix the problem (Habakkuk 1:5)
God is raising up the unstoppable, violent, conquering Chaldeans and sending them to Judah (Habakkuk 1:6-11)
Decades later, Babylonia conquered Judah, and the Jews went into exile. Habakkuk could not have known that plan, but God was orchestrating it during the time of Habakkuk’s prayers
God is orchestrating a solution to your prayers—in some ways, he already has through Jesus

Main Idea: When it seems like God isn’t listening, he’s already working on a solution

Conclusion: Let’s hang our hats on the truth that God is working to set things right, and we know he will ultimately do so for all things in Jesus
