Matt 17:18-21 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

2. Fasting – Fasting goes with prayer; it’s like putting a scope on your weapon. When you fast, you are denying self to devote more attention to God. There are different types of fasts and there is a way to fast.
Matthew 6 tells us, we should not look like we’re fasting, don’t announce it to everyone. Know why you’re fasting and that should be between you and God.
In 2 Chron chapter 20, Jehoshaphat directed a fast when the Moabites, Ammonites and the Meunites declared war on the people of Judah.
In Ezra chapter 8, Ezra declared a fast while praying for God to take care of them and protect them on their journey.
In Joel chapter 1, God was pronouncing judgment on the people and Joel called for a fast, before the Lord pronounced His judgment.
Daniel went on a no wine, no meat and no sweets fast for 21 days when he was praying about the situation with his people.
Back in Matthew 17:21, when the disciples could not dispel a demon they ask Jesus why and Jesus told them that demon required prayer and fasting. What demon or situation do you have that you want to get rid of and you’ve prayed about it, and it just doesn’t seem to be getting any better? Maybe you need to fast over that situation, devote more attention to God, and getting spiritual food instead of physical food.
