Psalm 100 NASB95
A Psalm for Thanksgiving. 1 Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. 2 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing. 3 Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. 4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. 5 For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting And His faithfulness to all generations.
This Psalm is a call to worship.
v1-3 is a call to Praise
v4-5 is a call to Thank the Lord
Psalm 100:1 NASB95
1 Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
This verse does not leave room for choice.
It is a call for all to shout to the Lord joyfully.
Even when we don’t feel it.
(Hillsong’s “Even When It Hurts”)
Even when my strength is lost I'll praise you Even when I have no song I'll praise you Even when it's hard to find the words Louder then I'll sing your praise I will only sing your praise
Take this mountain weight Take these ocean tears Hold me through the trial Come like hope again
Even when the fight seems lost I'll praise you
Psalm 100:2 NASB95
2 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing.
We can find joy when we serve the Lord.
The more we fight service to Him the less we will find joy.
There is joy in coming before the Lord for those who belong to Him
Psalm 100:3 NASB95
3 Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
The know (Yada) is to know one on the deepest level.
Experientially
Cognitively
Informatively
Intimately
Isreal is reminded that it was God that made them a nation.
Pride will rob us of joy, when we think we made ourselves great, we are doomed for a fall.
It would do us well to remember who’s sheep we are
(Chris was told to remember who’s name you bare)
Psalm 100:4 NASB95
4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
Again we are called to praise and thanksgiving.
It is hard to remain depressed and thankful at the same time
It is hard to remain angry and praise God in the same breath
It is hard to worry and bless the name of Jesus at the same time.
Psalm 100:5 NASB95
5 For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting And His faithfulness to all generations.
Verse 5 tells us why to give thanks and praise God, like we need a reason.
The reason for worship must always rest on the character of God who is worshiped
When we make worship reflect us, we then make an Idol before God.
This is why doxology is so important
