We are going to be looking at the Power and Protection of God
The narrative in II Kings 6 presents a stark contrast between the perceived reality of danger and the actual spiritual reality of God's intervention.
When the Aramean army surrounded Dothan to capture Elisha, the prophet and his servant faced a moment of profound crisis.
Their ability to see and understand what was truly happening determined their response.
Turn with me to II Kings 6:13-18
This passage offers us three distinct visions that reveal God's power and protection:

The Vision of those with Sight- Elisha Vs. 16

King of Syria is sending his army against the Man of God

The Perception of Imminent Danger:

When they wake up in the morning
A strong army has surrounded the city
Not just Foot soldiers
But Horses and Chariots

Elisha's Confident Assurance:

Knew that they were surrounded
not by earthly forces
but by heavenly forces
Knew God was with him
Elisha didn’t need to see
He already saw that God was with him
Did not care how many came against him
Psalm 3:6 NASB95
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me round about.
Psalm 27:3 NASB95
3 Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident.
Psalm 91:7–8 NASB95
7 A thousand may fall at your side And ten thousand at your right hand, But it shall not approach you. 8 You will only look on with your eyes And see the recompense of the wicked.
2 Corinthians 4:18 NASB95
18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
True spiritual sight allows us to see God's presence and power even in the midst of overwhelming circumstances.
It's about trusting in God's unseen army.

The Vision of those with Glasses- Servant Vs. 17

Elisha's Prayer for Discernment:

Only see the Earthly Battle
there vision is clouded
Explosion in my eye
Have you closed your eyes to the power and protection of God?
Have you become afraid to do God’s Work?
Matthew 28:18–20 NASB95
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
2 Timothy 1:7 NASB95
7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.
He knew in Vs 14 that they were surrounded
That they must do something to survive

God Grants a New Perspective:

How can we save ourselves?
Ephesians 6:10–12 NASB95
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Psalm 119:18 NASB95
18 Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your law.
Sometimes, we need God to 'open our eyes' to His protective presence.
Our limited human perspective can be corrected by divine revelation, allowing us to see God's power working on our behalf.

The Vision of the Blind- Syria Vs. 18

Physical Sight, Spiritual Blindness:

Thought it would be easy
They thought they were stronger
John 3:16–20 NASB95
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 “For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

Elisha's Action and God's Power:

Elisha then strikes them with blindness (v. 18),
not as an act of malice, but as a
demonstration of God's ultimate control and protection.
This 'blindness' is a divine intervention that
prevents them from harming God's prophet.
Demonstration of God's Sovereignty Isa 45:7
Isaiah 45:7 NASB95
7 The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the Lord who does all these.
The enemy may appear powerful,
but their spiritual blindness renders them
ultimately ineffective against God's plan.
God can blind those who seek to harm His people, ensuring their protection.

Conclusion: How Big is Your God?

How Big is your God?
Elisha’s God
Powerful
Able to Protect
Close by Him
Servant’s God
Puny
Unconcerned
Far Away
Soldier’s God
Was Powerless
Unable to protect
Possibly non-existent
Elisha Prayed for
Servants Eyes to be opened
Armies Eyes to be Closed
Both demonstrated the Power of Elisha’s God
How much more Powerful should God be in our lives?
Now that He dwells with in us
Romans 8:30–34 NASB95
30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
