The basis of the new and living way
The duty of true worship
Hold fast, Keep holding fast
To hold on and never let go. A death grip.
Holding fast to what?
Confession of our faith
Confession= to speak alike or to agree
Christian faith points to an attitude of trust in the person of Christ and what the scriptures teach about him.
The word for faith is very similar to the word hope. It is likely that translators used faith because of the association with the word “confession”.
“Without wavering” gives the image of a tree standing firm and tall. Psalm 1:3
Psalm 1:3 ESV
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
James 1:6 ESV
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
Our faithfulness and steadfast living should be enhanced by his past examples of faithfulness to us.
1 John 1:9 ESV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
So we have a great deal of reason to live in hope and faithfulness because of the track record of the Lord.
